May 20, 2018 - Scotland here we come

First of all, apologies about the multiple messages advising of an update, the internet is a bit flaky in some places which causes some drop outs. Anyway, on to our adventures. Thursday 17 May, Britannia Cruise Day 5 We arrived in Olden to celebrate Norway’s National Day, Constitution Day. True to all the tour information there is nothing to see in Bergen but then that’s not why our ship carried us there. Olden is at the very end of the Nordfjord a fjord a bit over 60 kilometres long. We didn’t get to see the scenery during our sail in as...

Oct 17, 2017 - Respite At Heathrow

@@@@@@@ KAPOORS ON THE ROAD We made our way to the Sixt Car Rental Drop-Off Area in what I would consider a remote area of the Heathrow Airport region. I think the staff was more that a little surprised to see me get out of the car with a bandaged ankle, grab a cane and limp into the office to finalize the paperwork. The receptionist at the Renaissance Hotel had told me that the car rental shuttle buses pass by the rear of the hotel on their way to and from the terminals, and that they rarely stop at the front of the hotel itself. She felt...

Mar 16, 2017 - Dubai & Heathrow

We arrived in Dubai in the early hours of the morning. We changed terminals and finally caught our last flight to London. A good journey apart from your mum causing chaos by setting off the assistance required button in the toilet! 2 crew knocking frantically at the door! Landed at Heathrow at 7 in the morning. Your mum got through passport control, and then the machines stopped working! I was delayed for some time. The only machines that our passports did not work in were the ones in UK!!!! Went to Nero's for breakfast before heading to...

Apr 30, 2015 - Dubai to Heathrow, London

Our flight to London included a transit stopover at Dubai where we landed around 7.00am local time after a seven and a half hour flight from Brunei. Only a 1.20 hour stopover to service the 787, by the time we disembarked, walked about half a kilometre to the transit area, it was then through a security check before heading downstairs and walking back the same distance to our departure gate,C9. Sat around for about 20 minutes before boarding - we used the special assistance offered - the staff recognised Kristian was blind - and got...

Vietnam 2014

May 9, 2014 - The Entrance

The Entrance I drove north through France heading to Paris, with an overnight in Le Mans, chosen as a halfway point, and for its racetrack gift shop, where I hoped to buy a gift for my car crazy grandson Mack. The city itself was a surprise, with a wonderful old town, a vibrancy that surprised me, and many restaurants to choose from. I was still having issues with the tolls, and thought I had plenty of cash, but at one booth, standing next to Blacky, counting out every piece of change I had to get to the correct amount, over 19 Euro’s, I...

May 1, 2014 - 02.05.2014 - Last couple of weeks

Hi all, on the last stint of our journey now we arrived in Hanoi to dark gloomy skies and big drops of rain splitting against us as we got off to bus as it was around 6 o clock in the morning, we just grabbed our bags and the nearest taxi driver, however, he was saying it was going to be 250,000, which we knew was too expensive, so said no we want the meter, where they all laughed and said it would be a lot more expensive, however we stuck to it, and eventually he took us, with the meter most definitely ON. Anyway, turned out by the time we...

Apr 27, 2014 - 27.04.2014 - Denang and Phong Nha National Park

Hi all. So, we arrived in Denang after a sleepless ride on the night bus, where the driver smoked and played loud music until half 11 at night, and started blasting it again at 5 in the morning, we were fuming. So anyway, we arrived, tired and grumpy, we got straight in a taxi to go to our hotel, when we arrived the taxi driver wouldn't give us our change as he said he had to keep it,of course we were like no, give us our change, after a bit of bickering he finally agreed to give us OUR change, how good of him! So we checked in at the...

Apr 16, 2014 - 17.04.2014 - Nha Trang

Hi all, so we finished in Dalat and it was time to leave, we arrived at the bus station, where there was a big coach and a few buses similar to beagle buses, but much worse. We weren't worried, our journey was a 5 hour journey, obviously we were going to be on the big coach, but no, we were on the chugger, and because our mini bus driver was late, we didn't even have proper seats. We had pull out ones that came halfway up our backs and were broken, it was horrific, worse journey so far! We weren't even sat together, however, the bus driver...

Apr 11, 2014 - 12.04.2014 - Ho Chi Minh, Dalat (Vietnam)

Hi all, so we're on our final leg of the journey, only one month left, boo hoo! After a very long bus journey, we arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, where we were greeted by ridiculously fast mopeds swerving around us, everywhere!! We were stressed and tired and just wanted to get to our hotel, so of course as soon as taxi drivers saw us getting out of the mini bus, they pounced, along with moped drivers. We went to the taxi driver who literally didn't speak a word of English, we soon discovered this is the norm in Vietnam, we tried asking him...

Mar 29, 2014 - 29.03.2014 - Cambodia, this brings us up to date!

Hi everyone, this blog finally brings us up to date, yaaaaaayyyy!!! I WILL NOT BE MAKING THIS MISTAKE AGAIN! So, we arrived in Siem Reap at around 9 at night, within 10 minutes of being outside, were sticky and sweaty, it was disgusting, it is so ridiculously hot here, it's around 37 degrees, but the humidity just makes it unbearable. So anyway,we got to our hotel, where the manager told us the staff had stole stuff in the past, so he recommended we put our stuff in his safety deposit box at the front desk, so we were off to a good start....

Mar 19, 2014 - 19.03.2014 - Thailand So Far (PART IV - Chiang Mai)

PART IV - Chiang Mai So I think we were on the plane last time? Yeah so we boarded the plane and realised we weren't sat together, thank god, I don't think I could've taken Sean's incessant chatter the whole way, I just can't shut him up, ha ha! So after a two hour flight we arrived in Chiang Mai at around half 9 at night, luckily we already had a place booked, so got a taxi straight there, we pulled down a tiny dingy alley thinking oh dear, please let this be a shortcut, however, the car rolled to a stop and we had arrived, we checked in...
