Apr 4, 2016 - BACK HOME

Most of you who read this blog will know that we both had to return to the UK for a few weeks to find a suitable care home for my father and empty his flat. After 5 and a half weeks and a lot of hard work, we are now able to continue our trip. Dad seems happy in his new home, a great joy to visit one day and see him playing dominoes with some of the other residents. He has also been on a group outing to the theatre. Firstly, I flew back home with Ryan Air on 4th April and then two weeks later, John decided to drive the van back as he was...

Jul 28, 2013 - Lunch at the Pub

Bevan had decided I should have one English Pub lunch before I left. His suggestion was for one that required a nice walk to it. How far is it? Maybe 10 miles! He added later, 5 each way. Jennie vetoed that, it seemed just a bit too far, especially walking home on a full stomach. WE finally agreed on one that he said would take us 30 mins to reach. AS we walked he added "maybe more like 40". Jennie said I bet its 50. It was 45, so a truce was declared., The walk along the canal as alwsys, was beautiful, seeing our Swan family, first met...

Jul 25, 2013 - Alyssa's party and Dog Agility Show

Alyssa's party had been put off because of the trip to Scotland, so now it was time for the Disco with 20 of her friends. WATHC THIS SPACE: NEED A PHOTO OF THE 'DARCY' DOG CAKE. This looked so like Darcy, cutting his head off was a bit horrifying! Animal cakes look great but when they are so life like, Darcy to a T, cutting into them is not nice!! Overcoming scruples though, the cake was delicious! We had picked Alyssa up from a Dog Agility show. After the party it was off in the campervan to another; this time a big 3 day event....

Jul 24, 2013 - Fleet and Wakehurst

Jennie wanted to go to the second day of the BIG Antique Fair at Ardingly. I figured I could handle it for a wile but not for most of the day, so Bevan and I went off exploring. There was a National Trust property not far away; Wakehurst Place; so we started there. It is advertised as Kew Gardens Seed Bank, Gardens and Wakehurst House. They didn't accept Jennie's Australian Family National Trust Card (which usually gets reciprocal entrance to most National Trust places in England. This time Kew leases the property, and they don't have any...

Jul 24, 2013 - willow cane sculptures Wakehurst

There were several huts with both little sculptures, and information on meadow flower conservation. These flowers are at risk of extinction because of fertiliser, insecticides and building and road works. These Willow cane sculptures by Tom Hare were amazing so you've got all the photos I took of them! Each had a metal tag but I didn't notice them until the last. SO perhaps you can have a go at naming them, especially English readers. We can have the excuse weve never seen most of them before.

Jul 13, 2013 - Back in Fleet

Its been relaxing in fleet: An occasional walk up the street to replenish supplies; an 8th family birthday party at pizza express for Alyssa; LISTENING to a bit of cricket. its a bummer not being able to see any of it on TV, unless you have Fox. Murdoch got the contract 3 years ago. I bet it now hasn't put him any further up the popularity polls with the locals. Not having cricket on free to air, when the Ashes are at home is really off! And finally doing some booking for hire car and first few nights accommodation for Scottish trip...

Jul 12, 2013 - London with Jennie

Arrived at fleet; met by Bevan and have been staying with Matt and Sherie and their children, Alyssa and Robbie, since. Except when jennie and I went to London for a busy two days, with an overnight stop in Earls Court. Heat was forecast. Funny how 30 actually does feel hot!! The humidity must be high. Highlights: Victoria and Albert Museum. An amazing place. I am on the stops. get out the magnifying glass. The building itself is so magnificent that you could just look at that for hours! And its not all staid and serious. We weren't...

May 11, 2012 - fleet and birthday party

Arrived in Fleet for Matt's 40th birthday. This was not the initial reason for the trip though I think other guests thought it was and were most impressed! we had been talking of a trip and the need to get it in before Olympics. Jennie realised it could be synchronised to catch the birthday. Sherie's birthday was a few weeks ago so it became her party too. THEN it became a dress up party. an S and or M theme. We were told we didn't have to dress up, but Jennie, as always, was very creative, with purple, green and white ribbons, one of the...
