Jun 4, 2019 - U turn

We did a u turn yesterday and started making our way back towards the Thames. Of course we had to go back over the aquaduct with rails on only one side and this time I was on the no rail side! A nice view but I sat down till we were on the other side. We're at Wolverton today doing the grocery shop.

Jun 2, 2019 - Stoke Bruerne again

We made our way to the bottom of the 7 locks that go up to Stoke Bruerne, a five mile trip meeting quite a few boats coming towards us along the way, and a rather rude, nasty moored up narrow boat owner who decided to complain about wide beam boats on his canal!!!! Then walked up to the top as Tony wanted to measure the concrete ring that was put into the centre of the tunnel to repair it,just to be sure we wouldn't fit. According to his calculations we would have 100ml on each side of the boat to manouvre in - so he's happy in the...

May 31, 2019 - The Buckingham Arm

The Buckingham Arm of the canal begins just behind us at the Cosgrove lock. and once ran all the way to Buckingham opening in 1800. It was finally abandoned in 1964 and is now the subject of a restoration programme. A short stretch of about 100metres is still in use for moorings up to the new bridge. There is water for a short distance and then it is either completely filled in and overgrown with weeds or dry bed where they have started to dig it out ready for filling with water again. Which we can't see happening for many many...

May 29, 2019 - Stoke Bruerne

After taking Elva & Ray through a lock experience we moored up and off we went in the car to Stoke Bruere to check out the Blisworth Tunnel and the National Waterways Museum. And we made a major decision - we are not going to attempt the tunnel as the centre one third has been repaired, which makes the roof smaller and it's not worth the heartache and worry as we know we will be turning around another 17 miles past the tunnel because we cannot fit through the Braunston tunnel. We will travel up to Stoke Bruerne over the next few days...

May 28, 2019 - Made it just before the showers

Elva & Ray as we left the boat to visit The Nags Head for dinner last night. They went off to visit Bletchley Park today while we made our way through 10 or so bridges to Cosgrove, arriving just before the showers began. We went over this aqueduct which was quite scary as there was only a fence on one side and a long drop over the other side. I'm on top of the bridge in this photo if you can find me. Another town full of history there are a few horse tunnels which were used to get the horses from one side of the canal to the...
