Mar 10, 2013 - Buying the car...

We have found a car! It is a 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello that we bought from DK Engineering. It is a LHD Italian car that was imported into the UK in Dec 2012. It is currently at Rosneath Engineering for a Cambelt service and general fettling to make it ready for the European road trip.

Sep 27, 2009 - Chartwell

We took a Sunday outing to Chartwell, Winston Churchill's home in Kent. Lovely gardens, and the house is kept just as it was when he lived there. Unfortunately, only one of my pictures came out. It continues to be warm and sunny here day after day. Everyone is marveling; the most beautiful September since the early 1930s, they say.

Jane's Adventure

Sep 17, 2008 - Arrived in Kent UK

Hi folks, we arrved at London Gatwick airport on Monday 15th at about 3pm after a 2hr flight from Florence. However we couldn't find Jill anywhere. after searching all over for 15 minutes she and Lucy snuck up behind us and we had a great reunion after 10 years. No tears this time - it's really the firt trip back after leaving that does that. Back to their place in Kemsing (near Sevenoaks) in Kent, we were so impressed by how green and treed this part of England has become, even since our last visit in '98 and even by NZ standards. After...

Sep 8, 2008 - Wine and movies

When I was done exploring Westminster I called Auntie Ali and headed out to her place where I am now. Her and my cousin Ben picked me up at their local train station and we came back here where she made me a delicious dinner and now we are just relaxing with wine and movies while I try to get up-to-date on this blog! Unfortunately I am having some issues uploading photos here so you will have to wait a bit longer for those. I hope to hear from you all soon!

Jun 15, 2007 - Houston, we have lift off!

Welcome all peoples interested in our travels ... and those who are wondering (with a morbid fascination) how travelling the world with a 1yr old is going!! We are pleased to report that the flights (Perth-Singapore and then Singapore-London) went extremely well with both girls behaving like well seasoned (Autumn- 'scuse the pun!) travellers. Both managed to sleep for good periods. As some may be aware, we are travelling with Maya's car seat so that she can be strapped in to the plane and any cars we are in. The car seat was AWESOME and she...

Jan 6, 2007 - Greenwich

To ensure we didn't hit work too hard after being away in Nice it was set so that we had work on Friday and then had the weekend to recover and spend some time around London with my parents. After deciding a train journey to any of the other cities around London were too expensive (more than a return flight in many cases) we decided to take Mum and Dad down to Greenwich, which is basically a little city of it's own inside of London. As well as having an old English feel Greenwich also has a number of attractions, most importantly its where...

Sep 30, 2006 - A Mixture of Feelings

Your last day on foreign soil is often a sad one and for a varity of reasons. Your leaving the whirl-wind site seeing tour, your back to the old grind in a few days, but our biggest sadness today is splitting up the group. Beatrice is unable to fly today and we will be going to the hospital for some help. It was decided that Lois and Jerri would proceed back to Calgary where they can get their orientation back at Dennis & Beatrice's apartment. After a flurry of getting ready for the airport, changing flights for D & B, booking the hotel for...

Jun 27, 2006 - London

Cheers from London! We are here filming a pilot TV show following the path of Dan Brown's novel, now a major motion picture: The Da Vinci Code. Last week we left off in France (here's the link to the archives). This week we travel on Eurostar, check in to one of London's top hotels, hit some spots in the DVC movie and discover one of the best areas for Indian food. If you want to come on this adventure bring your wallet, because this is one of the world's most expensive cities. MAKING A SHOW We followed the exact tour I did in March. For...

Where's Johnny Jet?

Sep 6, 2005 - London, England

GATWICK EXPRESS TRAIN I was headed to Covenant Garden (Central London), so I bought a ticket at the Gatwick Express ticket counter for the Gatwick Express Train and a single tube ride. Total cost: 15 pounds ($26.78). Then I hit the ATM for some pounds ($1 USD = .56 GBP; 1 GBP = $1.78 USD -- that hurts!). The train was easy: It takes 30 minutes, departs every 15 minutes and has an on-board beverage cart. I later learned that tickets can be purchased on the train at no extra cost (that's not true for Heathrow Express). For more info about...

Where's Johnny Jet?

Sep 16, 2004 - Week One - Kent Countryside, England

Week one An uneventful flight to London (a blessing!). I arrived Friday the 9th and promptly joined my brother-in-law Geoff Nash and all his Friday night regulars at the "Green Man" in the City, #1 Poultry Lane. Both of us pretty far gone by the time we caught the 8:03 to Ashford, 1 ΒΌ hours south-east of London. Good times! We slept most of the way. Note to travelers: England is NOT very digitally connected outside of the major cities. No internet access in the rooms except dialup - and the hotel does not have any connector cables. I quote...
