Sep 5, 2009 - BBQs

Today we had two barbies to go to, well deserved after our week's work methinks. The first one of the day was at Mr & Mrs Nash's for Karl's birthday. We were first to arrive (spot the unemployed people...) and Karl and Tash were putting the finishing touches to one of their usual amazing spreads and Layla was busy entertaining us by picking tomatoes from their garden... much to Tash's annoyance. One by one the whole gang arrived. Jo, James and Jenna, Dal, Liam, Nic and Luca (who is all grown up), the soon to be married Frazer and Becky,...

Sep 4, 2009 - Decorating round-up

Decorating round up Man! Why is decorating so sloooooooooooow??! I quite enjoyed the paper stripping bit and then comes the preparation.. preparation... preparation... my worst nightmare and what with Sergent Major Cheese looking over my shoulder, I can't even cut corners! After stripping the walls, I then had to go back over them again removing all the last bits of paper, then Steve filled some holes and I had to rub them down. Skirting boards next I thought, so I went to crack open the paint... 'what you doing!?' S.G. Cheese boomed....

Aug 24, 2009 - The fun begins

I thought I'd give a little round up of our week, as we've been busy bees since we've been back. Monday: We were a tad knackered this morning but we had a few jobs to do before we could get going with the decorating. First we had to get rid of loads of wood in the loft, that had been uncovered when we had our insulation done. This would give us room to put our cases back up there (sniff..) and clear some space in the lounge. In the afternoon, Steve went to meet Dan for a couple of drinks at the newly refurbished Peterboat and I took the...

Aug 21, 2009 - Bouncy bouncy!

We were up early this morning and on our way to see my sister by about 11... luckily the new tax disk had arrived in the post so we didn't have to worry about where we parked it today. The traffic on the M25 was a bit slow as usual but we were soon knocking on the door... not that we really had a chance to knock before two little excited faces appeared! It was sooo lovely to see Nathan and Amy, they have grown up so much while we've been away but it was like no time had passed at all as soon as we walked in.... 'Trampoline!, Trampoline!'...

Aug 20, 2009 - A Tax-ing day

We took our first trip to Tesco today, it was soooo busy, not something that we're used to these days. It took Steve about 2 minutes of pushing the trolley before he got annoyed with old people stopping in front of him. By the time we'd walked aimlessly around trying to remember what we used to buy and figure out what isle they'd been moved to, we were late for our hairdressers appointment. So we decided to quickly drop off the food, fridge the cold stuff and then drive to the salon. It was really great to see Martyn and Steve was soon...

Aug 19, 2009 - A Cheezey day

I eventually woke up at about 11 this morning... 12 hours after going to bed, mmmmmmmm. Steve had been up, done the washing up and been to the gym, no breakfast in bed for me though unfortunately! I felt a bit odd this morning, a bit lost I suppose not having anything to plan or research on. I suffer a bit from jet lag too so that probably didn't help. I put some more washing on and even put some on the line (that made me feel better, Vicky, Mum you'll understand..!), then rang the bank to sort out some issues that had arisen while I was...

Aug 17, 2009 - Thank you and goodnight

Thank you and goodnight Well it's been one hell of a long day today... feels more like two actually... We had a bit of a lay in and then rang reception to arrange a late checkout; 1pm instead of 11am. We had our last breakfast in Cora's and then came back to the room to pack. We spoke briefly to my Ma and Pa to arrange our pickup... we're getting the Biddy Express from Heathrow to our next stop in Leigh on Sea, it was the cheapest way to do it, you just pay them in cups of tea. Anyway, once we'd checked out and left our bags in storage,...

Dec 13, 2005 - London (Portsmouth)

Well had a great time at Mamma Mia last nigh. Was a really great show. Then went and did a little shopping as the shops were open till midnight. Off today to Portsmouth and will give Dixie a ring when we get down there. Went across to Gosport on the Gosport Ferry (this counts a seatime for submariners!). Went to the Stoke Gallery and had the great fortune to meet Andrew Wigg the artist. Had a great chat with him and picked up some other bits and pieces including a drawing of field gunners which Andrew signed for Cath and I. He also asked me...

Feb 10, 2004 - London - metro to the max

London, reputed to be the most expensive place on the planet, is yet another world class city that we simply did not allow ourselves enough time for. We soaked up as much as we could by riding the big red double deckers, shopping in Soho, got ourselves some dim sum in Chinatown, rode the Tube and even saw a play that has been running for over 40 years - a whodunit that only people that have seen it share the secret of. With the exception of the ridiculous hostel we stayed in, the pictures say it all (and probably take longer than our entire...
