Sep 20, 2015 - Cairo to London and The Old Ostrich

Sept. 20-21 Back in London Our trip from Cairo to London was uneventful. We had to get up at a gadawful time in the morning to make our place. (Mike got up even earlier—his flight was at 3:30 am) But we were in Business Class again (drinks, movies, comfortable seats) so no complaints there. When we got back we took the bus/shuttle to the same hotel we left from—the Holiday Inn Slough. We retrieved the bag we left with them. By the time we got there it was late afternoon, so we walked down to the Old Ostrich Inn. When I say old, I mean OLD....

Sep 9, 2015 - Laundry Day and relocate to Slough

Sept. 9-Laundry and move to Slough We did our laundry today, checking out of the hotel and leaving our bags there while we did the laundry and lunch. The laundry worked pretty well, but it was a long walk to and from. We had lunch at the Ebury Wine Bar, rumored to have been the pub that Prince William had his bachelor party. This was also on our block, just the other end of the street. WE should have known we were in an area with cache in light of all the cool cars we kept seeing. Only as we were leaving did we realize what cool stuff was...

Sep 4, 2015 - Wandering around the Cotswolds

Sept. 4-Touring the Cotswold The plan today is to visit the Cotswolds. I had envisioned staying in the Cotswolds this evening, but we never could seem to agree on where to stay. Instead we ended up pushing through to Slough (pronounced like plow), just outside of London. We did some cool stuff on the way. We saw lots of sheep country (that is what Cotswolds means in Welsh doesn't it?) and neat old towns in the medieval style. When we looked at the map we realized that we weren’t far from Stratford on Avon, so we made that our lunch stop....

May 25, 2010 - Windsor Castle

I took a ride along the tube and the national railway to Windsor Castle from London. Surprisingly it was really easy to navigate. It was only about a 30 minute journey. The Castle was more like a village on the inside with 5 different buildings. It was neat to see an entire town built around this magnificent structure. note: Windsor does not show up correctly on this map, so the closest destination, Slough is on the map instead. I transferred to a south train to Windsor in Slough.

May 4, 2010 - Leaving home

So finally it's time to go. After so much preparation and anticipation, it felt slightly scary to go. You know you've got everything ready and everyone back home is perfectly capable of managing everything while we're gone, but it's hard to escape the nagging doubts that something's been missed. It's a bit like when you get to the front of the queue for a rollercoaster, there's a point when you're strapped in when you realise it's happening anyway, so there's no point fretting. It's just time to enjoy the ride!

May 4, 2010 - Leaving home

I was a bit sad to leave England for so long. Syrus was being extra cute and all the family came round. My mum and dad were busy doing last minute things for the trip while I stroking the cats and saying goodbye to my cousins. It took us 30 minutes to get to the airport but it felt really long and I was with Tyrone and Sabeena. We said goodbye after we had something to eat at a cafe. We went through passport control and got our plane to Egypt. On the way there I was watching Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief, which was a good movie. We...

Dec 16, 2007 - Visiting the queen in windsor

Off to see the queen!!! Gaz and Cathy drove up from Brighton and after having a night out in Guildford (sorry no photos) we decided to go see the lady on the Australian coins. Apparently she is not our queen but the queen of England. All this time I thought she was ours. Oh well. Anyways, you should see this place!! GIGANTIC!! However, security did not believe that the queen and I go waaaayyyy back and would not let her know we were there. So we had to be content in walking the tourist route. As the story goes, the royal famliy doesn't...
