Oct 5, 2012 - Project Eden

Devon and Cornwall photos – incl Clovelly and Eden https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152154572535707.909991.746395706&type=3 We headed off to St Austell mid morning. It was a mission getting there with dodgy road signs (or lack of them!), the road atlas we borrowed from Avis helped. We should probably have taken the motorway after all, it would have been a lot quicker, but it was a very pretty drive through the back roads, with many reminders of home. In many places trees grew right over the road forming a tunnel. We filled up...

Sep 24, 2012 - Eden Project

Sunday had been a complete washout and Monday was only a little better. After a shopping trip in the morning and a walk for Daisy we headed to the Eden Project. The project was started in 1998 in a disused clay pit just outside St Austell. The idea of the project is to showcase the planet’s plant life and the importance of protecting the threatened world environments. Dominating the160ft-deep crater are huge biomes or conservatories made up of eco-friendly, Teflon coated, hexagonal panels. Before going into the domes we explored the...

Aug 6, 2012 - The Eden Project

We had read that the Eden Project gets really busy, so decided to get up and get there early just when it opened. This was a good plan, it got extremely busy later in the day but also meant we could park relatively close to the entrance. The drive to St Austell took about 40 minutes and it poured with rain all the way. We arrived and were surprised at the lack of cars, but got a parking space just a short walk from the entrance. We had bought Gardener's World magazines which gave 2 for 1 offers on the tickets, so this was a good saving....

A Week in Cornwall

Jun 29, 2012 - Cornwall, United Kingdom

We rented a beach house in St. Austel, Cornwall for us and 7 of our Harrogate friends ( http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/rentals/st-austell/162764 ). While the weather was typical British cloudy with lots of rain we made the most of our long week. With plenty of relaxing around the house we caught up on board games, books, movies, and some hearty group dinners each night. With our day trips we explored all of Cornwall with some beach trips, a visit to Tintagel Castle, lands end, and St. Ives. The scenery in Cornwall was fantastic and the...

Away We Go

Aug 1, 2011 - Eden Project, Cornwall, England

When we left St. Ives, we spent a day visiting Eden Project. Eden Project was built in a disused clay mine in Cornwall. The land has been transformed into a global garden complex, educating people about nature in the world around them and associated environmental impacts. There is a huge Rainforest Biome and Mediterranean Biome that showcase the various plant life of these climatic zones. The Rainforest Biome is particularly stunning with waterfalls and the humid climate you would expect in the rainforest. When you go to the viewing...
