May 8, 2012 - Chiselhampton

On leaving Stratford we drove on through Oxford and then on to find a B&B. We used the road map and the B&B guide. The latter has any place that provides bed and breakfast, but are not always what I think of as B&B's. First we had to find a village that was in both the road guide and the B&B book. Then phone to see if there were vacancies. This time we got 'The Coach and Horses Inn' off the main road at Chiselhampton. We haven't had any really dreadful food yet, (though fish and chips were down) but this was really good. Which explained...

Europe 2012

Jan 6, 2012 - Day 4

Today went by so quickly! After getting up and talking to you guys, I took off for Stratford. It was nothing really worth noting, but that's just my opinion. We went and got a tour of Shakespeare's home, New Home, Hall Croft, the church Shakespeare is buried in, and Anne Hathaway's cottage. As you all know, I am not a fan of site seeing per say so you can understand why this day wasn't the most enjoyable for me especially when it's about someone I have no interest in. After all of our walking walking walking, we went to a pub and got some...

Jan 5, 2012 - Day 3

Logistics: Today started with missing the alarm clock which meant miss my skype appointments with the fam and Andrew. I then had class from 9-12 again and then Ana and I planned on going into City Center* (this is what they call the downtown city of Oxford. this incorrect in my last entry). But we ended up going going with Jenna, Andrew, and Evan. They wanted lunch so we started out at what we were told was the "college students hangout" but unfortunately all the students don't come back until Sunday. The food was good though. Then we went...

Jan 4, 2012 - Day 1 & 2

Wow! I am in Europe! I still can't believe it. Day 1 Logistics: Our plane arrived early, but it took forever to get through customs. I am glad I was with the girls because I don't know if they would have gotten through without me. It's not like I am some experienced world traveller but I do listen and follow instructions. These two not so much. We eventually made it to the bus and took it for about 30 mins to Oxford then caught a cab at the bus station and took it to our house (Logan House) in Summer Town (a neighborhood in Oxford)....

Jun 21, 2011 - Horsham vs. Horsley...did I stutter?

Yesterday I travelled from Bath to Oxford, England where I met up with my Philly pal Steph. (We met in London my first week). We saw the Oxford Castle and Oxford University which is an Ivy league school equivalent to Harvard or Yale. We enjoyed our afternoon catching up about our solo travels last week. It was nice to see her again! After hanging with Steph, I had to catch a train back to London since I am departing for Germany tomorrow. Of all things, of all days, my American accent landed me about 45 minutes in the wrong direction. The...

May 19, 2011 - A great day in Oxford

After three nights we now have to leave our little studio. We drive to Oxford, leave Pierre in the park and ride and hitch a bus to the city. Immediately sign up for a two hour walking tour that includes a brief visit to three of the thirty nine colleges here. A busy little city. Young people on bicycles (without helmets), hundreds of bikes parked outside the colleges and tour groups everywhere. The colleges are amazing. We gain entry to their dining rooms – the students can eat there three times a day if they wish. Beautiful rooms,...

Apr 11, 2011 - Warwickshire and Oxfordshire - Day 3

Today was an awesome day, I loved every minute from the start to the finish. We started out with a lovely breakfast at a hole-in-the-wall Italian coffee shop while we were waiting for the tour bus. It took an hour to drive around central London before we were on our way to Warwick castle. I'm not sure whether I was awed by the castle or the grounds surrounding it, probably the grounds! An hour was truly not long enough to enjoy what the castle had to offer. Next we headed to Stratford on Avon to see Shakespeares house. I enjoyed the village...

My Europe Adventure

Nov 10, 2010 - Oxford

OXFORD We stayed just one day overnight in Oxford so we did not have time to do it justice. However, we were able to take a wonderful long walk through the town to see the university and the cathedral. We had a delicious, unique meal of pot pies made with unusual combinations, i.e., peach and lamb, at an incredibly old pub, The Eagle and Child. It's an experience not to be missed. ********************************** You are most welcome to share this travel blog with your family and friends. Just email them the following web...

Sep 21, 2010 - Oxford and end of tour

This morning we got up early, had breakfast and boarded the bus. We passed Sherwood Forest associated with Robin Hood. We then stopped at Straford-upon-Avon where we saw Anne Hathaway’s thatched cottage and had a group photo taken with the cottage in the background. The photographer even took a photo of Andrew and I outside the cottage with our camera and it came out really well. After that we took a tour to visit Shakespeare’s birthplace which was really interested. The house was very ancient, and there were local guides dressed in period...

Europe 2010

May 8, 2010 - Day 4

Today we headed across to Witney to meet up with Uncle Brian and Aunty Jill. I've been surprised by how light the traffic has been on our trip and how easily we have handled the motorways and roadworks! We got into Witney around 10am and pulled into that famous landmark known as the Golden Arches (Maccas) Brian and Christopher arrived a few minutes later to guide us up to their house. Brian recently had heart surgery and was still taking it easy (been out using the hedge trimmer that morning) We sat around and exhanged photographs with...
