Jun 27, 2017 - Going home

There were sadly no lingering farewells with Toni and Piet as they both rushed out the door for work soon after 7am. Just as well probably as I don't think Toni would like her Mum crying in front of the future son in law񏤔.. I really have so enjoyed my time with my daughter. Yes, she is strong minded and focused but I may share a few of her qualities I feel. So it was a quick goodbye and they were gone, leaving me to finalise my packing and make my way to the airport. I did have a bit of time and perhaps could have done one more small...

Jun 26, 2017 - My last day in London

All good things must come to an end and sadly today is my last day in London. I would have loved to have attended a show but my leaving has snuck up on us and with Piet away for the weekend and us unaware of what time he would return, I realised that it was unlikely to happen. I did think about going on my own but did want to spend my last night with both Piet and Tonez so decided against it. So wanting to make the most of my last day, I packed my bags and did a little housework then I was off out the door. It was a lovely day and I thought...

Jun 26, 2017 - Waiting game

Arrived at Heathrow on time after a good flight. We have about 3 hrs left before our flight - boring! The security man called C lovie! Of course we had to go through security here as well. You guessed it - the nightmare traveller who arrives at the scanner, then opens their case and starts pulling things out but only when prompted! Laptop, perfume, cosmetics, toothpaste, ......, brains?? C is off looking for a book that she won't read on the plane! We suppose we might need a drink and snack. J is unsure after his Wiener Schnitzel in Vienna!

Jun 25, 2017 - Recovery Sunday

After a nice sleep in, the plan was to visit the markets at Notting Hill. This is a lovely area and I don't know why I didn't take more photos𯘕. The only drawback was the hour long bus ride it took to get there. On arrival we wandered around the antique shops and market stalls. It really is a lovely place with some very upmarket clothing shops. Sadly a little too rich for my pocket, even with the sales on but it was still fun looking! We called into a busy cafe for a drink and a light snack before the long bus trip back. We both only...

Jun 24, 2017 - Birthday in London

Today is my birthday so after a slow start we were off to visit China town for lunch. We found a wonderful cafe called "Viet" which you guessed it, was Vietnamese. The food was delicious and very filling. After that we headed to Somerset House which is more like a Palace. A huge building which holds many exhibits. Toni had found a perfume exhibit which we found really interesting and informative. We came out smelling like roses lol! with many different scents tickling our nasal hairs 𯘀. After the exhibit, it was time for coffee and perhaps...

Jun 23, 2017 - Back to London

This morning I thought before I leave Edinburgh, I would climb up to Arthur's Seat for a view of the city. It was a very windy morning but I thought I would give it a shot. There were quite a few other people doing the same as it turned out. 30 minutes later I was at the top and even though it was extremely windy the views of the city was well worth the climb. The descent took me about half the time and I was soon back at Keith's to shower, pack and leave for London. As I had time before I caught the airport bus I thought I would find the...

Jun 17, 2017 - London Heathrow airport

Hi all Well now at a Heathrow airport hotel after time in Lucerne, Switzerland and Paris France and today spending a day with friends in the country side of southern England a night before we fly on to Niagara Falls then return to New York. The trip from Lake Maggiore in Italy to Switzerland was to say the least spectacular on the way we stopped at one of the many mountains and travelled on a veniculer then a cable car which being a 2 storey one had some travellers like Marco in the lower cabin and Anne in the open topped roof above, and...

Jun 16, 2017 - Wedding Dress and Dinner with Adam and Lauren

Today I am pretty relaxed as I don't have too much planned besides going with Toni to her wedding dress fitting and later meeting Adam and Lauren for dinner. They arrived last night from Perth and we have arranged to all meet up at a Mexican restaurant called Wahaca which is on Southbank. I also am heading to Paris tomorrow so will pack my bag ready to leave early in the morning. Toni is working from home today due to her fitting so I will try and keep out of her hair. After I packed my bag, I walked up to the local P.O delivery centre, to...

Jun 15, 2017 - A few Square words on the M25

Our last day in England. We got away early after a good breakfast and a short chat with the manager and his wife. The recommended that we visit Rye down on the coast. This was one of the possibilities we had considered. Others being Canterbury, and Tunbridge Wells. So we settled on Rye and headed off on the 45 min drive. J got a small amount of Diesel - trying to keep the tank in the bottom quarter as we had paid for a full tank when we collected the car. The car has been quite good. Easy to drive and economical. Manual instead of auto, but...

Jun 15, 2017 - Harrods and The National History Museum

This morning after doing some housework (mainly cleaning up from cooking last night!), I thought I would peruse the fashion stores in Knightsbridge, namely Harrods. I dressed appropriately so I didn't look like a complete tourist and I was off. Walking along past exclusive stores really makes you wonder if normal everyday people ever shop here.(Toni tells me not normally. Usually Arabs and Asians). Beautiful clothes, perfumes and jewellery with exorbitant prices. Harvey Nichols which is supposed to be "The" fashion store was having a sale...

Jun 14, 2017 - Changing of the Guard and National Art Museum

This morning I was up and away early to catch the Changing of the Guards Tour. I was in the city early and waited at a close cafe where the news was on. News reporters were covering a huge fire that had ripped through an apartment block killing at least 6 people but many are still missing. The coverage and footage of the fire was something out of Towering Inferno. It was horrendous and cast a sombre feeling over the rest of my day. The tour though was excellent. If you are a nit of a royalist you would absolutely love every minute of this....

Jun 13, 2017 - Last day in London

Took one of the bus rides around London which took three and a half hours; a long trip covering most of the well known sites and sights but slow travel as the traffic is very congested. Obviously London is full of tourists althughnthenarea of our hotel does not seem as busy despite being close to,the museum area. Stayed on the bus as I was in the front seat on the top deck until back to the museum area and then had a visit to the Natural History museum. Have checked my flight with Emirates and now definitely looking towards home.
