Jun 3, 2008 - Leeds: The End :-(

Homeward bound…again…for the last time :-( It’s fitting that I started off this journey carried across to new lands courtesy of the Dutch on KLM airlines and that I find myself back at Schipöl airport in Amsterdam again waiting for a flight but rather than heading off to the far flung lands of Guatemala this time its a flight back home to Leeds that will complete the final leg of this grand escapade. And so on the tarmac of Leeds and Bradford airport on a rainy english summers day endeth my Latin American adventure topped of with a...

Sep 19, 2007 - York to Leeds

For some reason, the tour company changed our hotel from one in Harrogate to The Queens Hotel in downtown Leeds. This is an old but very nice hotel. The rooms are large and the service is really good. We have a corner room on the 6th floor overlooking downtown. We have dinner in the hotel and it is also good. We have had a full day so we don't go exploring Leeds but I imagine there is much to see.

Sep 12, 2007 - Home sweet home

The taxi journey to the airport was quick and efficient at midnight and booking in the luggage easy. We just hoped it was going to arrive back with us. Security checks getting out of Singapore were no problem as long as you had your entry visa so we had a couple of hours to kill waiting for the flight. Singapore airport has a free internet so we caught up with some of our emails and the blog but more interestingly it had lots of free foot massage machines... mind you .... you did look odd sitting there with both feet stuck in a large bread...

Sep 1, 2006 - Day Trip to Keighley to see the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway

Deb and I were up bright and early this morning. We went for a Full English breakfast. They are not kidding when they say full. Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Hash Browns, Blood Pudding, Toast, Juice and Coffee. We then took the a 30 minute train ride to Keighley (pronouced Keith Lee. In Keighley we walked over to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway platform. We purchased two Rover tickets that allowed us to travel on the line for the entire day. The first train of the day was a 1950's Deisel. It took us all the way up the line to Oxenhope. We...

Jan 2, 2006 - Back to Leeds

Returned to Leeds in time to go back to work tomorrow. Went up to Harrogate to some afternoon tea in some famous tea-rooms where I delighted in teasing Korina in her lack of culture for drinking coffee instead of tea...also somewhat resembled a sketch from 'Little Britain' (if you have not seen this show, watch it. Its very amusing.) - the sketch being the 'I'm a lady' one which features a rampant and very unconvincing transvestite who tries to convince all and sundry that she is, in fact, a lady and as such should be occupied by 'ladylike'...

Chris's rant fest

Oct 17, 2005 - Back to Leeds

Well, another relatively slow week - about the most interesting thing to happen was the uncontrolled bonfire lit by the local cheves and chevettes in the park. Guess it is getting close to Guy Fawkes (the great man came from York it turns out), meaning that local youths take to burning anything they can get their hands on at this time of year. Arrived home to see smoke billowing away down the end of the street - the next day 8 workmen and 2 stray dogs were cleaning up the mess.

Sep 21, 2005 - Part 2: It's Been a Crazy Week and I Have Lots to Say

It seems a lot of people were worried about me after the last entry... that I might be a little bit homesick and lonely. Well, the first week did have some ups and downs, but things dramatically improved after last Sunday! I have friends! I know my way around the city! I found the secret to hauling groceries 3 miles back to the dorm! I have internet! I'm enrolled in classes! Things are looking good... (just wait until winter when it gets dark at 3:00 in the afternoon, save some pep talks for then). So, starting with Sunday.... I decided to...

Jan 18, 2005 - Bingley: Time to leave home

Well it was goodbye home again for another travel trip, the second and final trip of this gap year. Had said goodbye to parents already so got a lift down to the station with Stephanie and it was goodbye Bingley as I got the train to Leeds, I wonder how this train will rate with those I'm about to encounter.
