May 29, 2014 - Mulberry House in Edithmead

We arrived back at Mulberry House in Edithmead early afternoon yesterday after doing a quick shop in Burnham and calling by the Audiology Clinic to make an appointment with the technician. We were in at West Country at 8.30am this morning for them to fit the replacement water heater and fix the tap which is STILL leaking. We now have hot water and a new tap. Called back to the Audiology Clinic where the technician was able to fix my broken hearing aid – so altogether it was a successful day!

The weather was still miserable this morning as we left and drove down to Mulberry House (TA9 4HB) at Edithmead after we had emailed and Pete replied he would be able to squeeze us in beside Alan and Lin. When we arrived the sun was shining and we had a nice afternoon sitting outside in the sunshine catching up with them. After dinner Andrew called by to pick us up and took us to The Fox and Goose where we met up with some of his in-law family, including a couple who were visiting from Christchurch, New Zealand for the family wedding held...

We arrived back at Mulberry House in Edithmead yesterday after stopping and LidL and Asda for supplies, and today we took Homer into Fiat at 9am and afterwards taking him to West Country where they gave us a courtesy car while they did their work. We took the opportunity to take our washing to the laundrette, and had a lovely walk along the beach at Burnham in the sunshine (the tide was right out) had a drink at The Rosewood pub, and spent some time at the huge Sanders Garden World before we got the call to pick Homer up.

Yesterday Martin and Alex came out to the camp for a cup of tea with us before we left, and we drove to Mulberry House (TA9 4HB) in Edithmead where Peter had reserved space for us on his CL site. Elaine was there to welcome us back, and later Mike arrived and we all had a drink and a catch up on news since we were last here. Later Pete and Sheila who we met at Home Farm 5 months ago, called by to say hello. Today we drove to West Country Motorhomes and Fiat to check off all the jobs we want done on Homer next week (nothing major). We caught...

It’s been a long time between entries, but we really have not had a lot of news (not good, anyway). Just a lot of waiting around and biding time. We did receive advice from HMRC of the amount of VAT and duty we have to pay. It seems we have really been stitched up; although we are deemed not to have “exported” our motorhome to Turkey, we are found to have “imported” our vehicle from abroad, so now we have to pay not only the VAT, but duty as well!! Rather than argue further we paid up, but the process of making the overseas payment proved...

The weather last week was quite dreary with many rainy days, but it warmed up and was fine for the weekend. We were very pleased to have a visit from the Cook family on Saturday afternoon. We met Martin and Alex and their daughters a couple of months ago in Florence, and they drove over from their home in Bath to spend the afternoon with us. We went in their car to Brean and then did the walk to Brean Down Fort which was built in the 1860’s to defend the Bristol ports against the French, decommissioned in 1901 and then used again in WWII...

We have made some progress with HMRC (Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) over our VAT and registration issues. After visiting West Country Motorhomes again we were given the advice to go to the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) office in Bristol. However, after driving the 30miles there we were told we need to get a NOVA (Notification of Vehicle Arrivals) Check done by the HMRC and return with that document. We went back to West Country Motorhomes who made some phone calls and then helped us fill out the downloaded form to email...

We spent another two days at AndrewsHayes Caravan Park in Dalwood. Saturday night was Karaoke Night in the Camp Bar; it was also Russ’ birthday and a farewell to Russ and Lynn who were finishing their work as camp wardens yesterday. It was a fun night with some lovely people, who obviously appreciated the good work our friends have done at the campsite and will miss them. Today we left the campsite, saying goodbye to Russ and Lynn who are heading north in a fully laden motorhome with their two dogs. We plan to meet up with them in Brittany...
