Feb 6, 2006 - Dover

Sad to be saying goodbye to the last familiar faces for a while, but onwards we must go. Woke up early and took the train to Dover so I could tramp around there before taking the ferry to France. Turned out to be a great decision, Dover is a fantastic place for a hike. Now, whenever I'm off on a jaunt en route somewhere that means I'll be doing it with a huge ass pack on my back... Not that bad, but one has to make certain adjustments. Adjustments that should be made before one is standing on a precipice, hanging on to a section of razor...

Jan 3, 2006 - Arriving in Canterbury

I arrived at London Gatwick airport around 11:00 am and somehow gathered my ridiculous amount of luggage and found the taxi driver who would be taking me to Canterbury. The driver was somewhat scary at first. He was a huge guy with tattooes all over his arms, but he ended uo being very nice. Of course, I had forgotten about the whole driving on the opposite side of the road thing, so I tried to get in the drivers side of the car, which he found quite amusing. It took about an hour to get to Canterbury, during which the phrase "bloody hell"...

Sep 25, 2005 - London and Dover trip

Before I start on the London trip, should mention that we went to a drive in movie at Harewood Castle on Friday night. Pretty impressive set-up. So, we knew that it was going to be a Bollywood movie, but thought that it might be pretty amusing in a cheesy sort of way. We didn't realise that the movie was: a. completely in Hindi, with somewhat crap sub-titles (much discussion required to understand what the hell was going on) b. filmed in 1975 c. over 4.5 hours long! The movie seemed to be some strange Mexican theme, yet the 2 main...

Jun 18, 2005 - A Day in Canterbury

Took an early bus to Canterbury for a day in the sun. Spent time in the Cathedral, took a punt on a boat trip... err... went on a boat punt trip, wandered the town shopping, wathced the town carnaval parade and generally had a quiet day. Oh, except it was WAY HOT! Temps close to the 30 mark - yes it does happen in the UK. A nice day, but probably only worth a day trip.

Apr 26, 2005 - Dover

First bad dream in Dover, had to sleep on a street, just parked and dossed! No campsites anywhere.... Did a good crossing (although were randomly picked for a security check - we look innocent, don't we????) and headed off down the coast of France through the Beautiful Normandy farm lands.

Mar 23, 2005 - The White Cliffs

-Having arrived safely at the ferry terminal in Dover, and preparing myself for a long wait, I was pleasantly surprised to meet Russ, our tour leader at 11am on schedule. In no time I was on the truck and had also met Mak, an Australian woman who was the other leader. They had done a great job in getting the truck to Dover on time, having to sleep the night on the floor of the truck in the fast lane of the M20! -Despite the delays - we actually managed to get on an earlier ferry than planned as they had 3 free spots for truck drivers which...

Aug 2, 2004 - London to Dover

Woke up and went to the internet cafe to book some bus tickets but it turns out the deal I found the night before was only good the day before not the day of so I was like 'screw it, ill just buy the tickets at the station'. BIG mistake. Never buy any tickets at the place when u can buy them online. I spent about an hour waiting in a line waiting for the bus. I finally got on and thought only about going as far as Canterbury but then changed my mind after the bus driver told me all there is to do in Dover besides seeing the White Cliffs. I...
