Oct 11, 2017 - Brighton

@@@@@@@ BACKGROUND Here’s some of what the Lonely Planet – England chapter Canterbury & Southeast England has to say about Brighton: Brighton is without doubt Britain’s most colourful and outrageous city. Here burlesque meets contemporary design; grotty hostels share thin walls with kinky boutique hotels; micro-brewed ales share bar space with ‘sex on the beach’; and stags watch drag. The city returned the UK’s first Green Party MP, Valentine’s Day is celebrated with unusual gusto, and according to the 2001 census, it has the UK’s highest...

Jul 13, 2016 - London - Canterbury - Brighton

We had a really fun day today. We met up with our tour group, tour director and bus driver at 7.45am. Annemarie is our tour director and Joe is our driver. We love Annemarie and Joe is a very quiet Irishman. There seems to be a good mix of Aussies, Americans and a few Canadians. So far it seems like a really good group of people. Hopefully we will still think the same after 3 weeks with them all! We left London and drove out through the County of Kent we stopped at Canterbury and saw the Canterbury Cathedral. It was so beautiful although...

May 25, 2016 - Day 3 Bexhill to Brighton and back

I woke about 3am and read for a while. Getting into the time zone I think. Managed to doze off for a while and woke again about 7am. It gets light about 5am and dark about 9:30pm so no need to rush as we have nice long days. When I went to bed last night I had planned to go for a run this morning. That didn't happen. I was snuggled up in my nice warm doona and could convince myself to put on my shorts and head out the door. It was interesting seeing our manoeuvring around the room to get showered and dressed. One of us sit either sit on the...

Jul 21, 2014 - Catching Up in Paris

Just to explain, we are now in Paris due to leave tomorrow Tuesday 22 for Rome. We had three very hot wonderfully sunny days in London, and this is the first opportunity I have had to get on to wifi properly. Still not figured out how to get photos on here to attach! Train ride out to Brighton on the 17th was comfortable and relaxing. Cannot describe the scene - blue ocean, dead calm. Pub for a cooling drink overlooking the pier and beachy scene. Free loo! Stoney beach, seems to be topped up with clean stones regularly; Walked onto and...

Jun 10, 2014 - Space

I have always sought out small little spaces. When I was a kid I always found a closet or created a small space to call my own. even when I had my own room, you could find me in the basement in a little space with a little light and toys and happiness. This kind of thing has continued in my life. as in I always had small apartments but also, internally. What I mean is that so many times in life I tried to make myself as small as possible to feel comfortable or safe. I got so good at it that there were times that I did not speak a single...

Jun 5, 2014 - Brighton

I have mixed feelings about being in Brighton. On one hand it is a great place with lots going on and a long water line. On the other I am marvelled out. hahahaha I have just seen to many wonderful places to drool over another one. So I find I am not trying to see everything, I am just hanging out and walking on the beach. Not a bad way to spend your time, I am fully aware but I feel like someone else could gush about this city and be completely right.

Feb 25, 2013 - Brighton a big disappointment

Today we decided to take a drive to Brighton. The weather was again cold and trying to find somewhere to park was difficult. Brighton owed much of its development to the mid eighteenth century sea bathing trend. The fad received royal approval when the Prince of Wales (the future George IV) began visiting the town with his mistress (the early dirty weekend!). Today it is a conference town. As we explored the town a seafront we were very disappointed as the town seemed shabby particularly the seafront. The Brighton Royal Pavilion which was...

Oct 31, 2012 - Holiday in Brighton

At the beginning of August 2005 I went to Brighton, a well-known resort in East Sussex (about two hours by coach from London). I am going to give you some (I hope ) useful information about this town and the neighbouring area. Furthermore, I enclose some photos I took during my stay. Enjoy! BRIGHTON It is an ideal place for spending holidays: sea, beach (stony, but full of interesting shells) and trendy hotels along it. When I was there the weather was sunny and warm (it did not rain for whole four days in a row! ). I felt almost like at...

Aug 5, 2011 - Brighton, England

After our visit in Portsmouth, we were off to Brighton, long-standing as a vibrant seaside vacation spot. This is the weekend getaway for many Londoners who come for the beach, attractions and nightlife. We spent time on the beach and walked the Brighton Pier with its rides and arcades. We walked the narrow alleys of the section called The Lanes. We went out dancing at an unpretentious little club called the Funky Fish, which played the danceable music we know and love. We visited the fascinating Royal Pavilion, the spectacular palace of...

Jul 12, 2011 - Brighton / London / Heathrow

Whilst waiting at Brighton train station to catch our train to London we give a call to Liv & Rusty - so nice to talk to them. 56mins on the train and we are back in London. With our heavy bags on our backs we walk slowly along the Thames to the London Eye to people watch. After a nice rest we walk on to Piccadilly Station to catch the train to Heathow Airport. A few stations along and in a tunnel the train comes to a sudden stop, a little worried something serious has happened the driver goes to investigate - some stupid kid a few...
