Aug 12, 2020 - Hot, hot, hotter

I haven't been this hot since last on Bribie Island!!! We've had 3 days over 30 degrees, and have perspirated as if we were in summer in Queensland with the humidity. We're expecting thunderstorms soon so that should cool it down. We haven't been doing much, just trying to keep cool. Meanwhile our entertainment has been watching the holiday boats go by. This afternoon around 6pm this boat decided to attempt to moor up for the night. They went so fast into the bank that they got stuck on the bedrock. We watched them for a while pushing...

Aug 3, 2020 - Hours of entertainment

Back in Bradford on Avon and very lucky to find a spot on rings just big enough for us. Phew. We had hours of entertainment for the evening yesterday as all the rental boats were returning back to base today, so were looking for somewhere to tie up for the night. The whole place is packed, so they wouldn't have had any luck anywhere near town at that time of the day. They were also looking to go out for a meal, being their last night - good luck with that, nothing unless they're near town. So one guy said it looked like cheese on toast for...

Jul 31, 2020 - And they still keep on coming

Here is the boat that the drunken, foulmouthed idiots sank on Sunday. They were all old enough to know better (over 50 years old!). Tony emailed the company about them - it sounds like many others did also - and he received a nice reply from them. It's in the hands of the insurance company - should be interesting . We moved on a bit further yesterday, filled up with water at Dundas Aquaduct after waiting for 2 boats before us to fill up. There's been a constant stream over the last 2 weeks with school holidays and everyone wanting to go on...

Jun 28, 2020 - Dundas Aquaduct

We are now at Dundas - only about 2 miles on from the last mooring. A smaller aquaduct than the last at Avoncliff. This old crane was used to lift cargo off the boats and has been restored and sits at the water point. This is a happy face to see coming towards you. You can't miss it!!! After mooring we walked on to Claverton where there is an old pumping station, it was scheduled to have an open day this weekend but of course it's not open with the virus. It's been raining on and off over the weekend so we got caught in a shower or two...

Jun 26, 2020 - Uphill & down dale

If we look over the edge of the towpath we catch sight of the River Avon which meanders just below the canal. We walked around and through Lower Limpley Stoke to Freshford which is quite a hilly walk. Some very big old buildings in the 2 villages. These fish are huge and there were lots of them as we looked down into the river from the road bridge....

Jun 25, 2020 - Another lovely mooring spot

Going through the aquaduct this morning. A beautiful day - heading for 30 deg. Doesn't take much to get up a sweat. We are now moored near Limpley Stoke, 51.3447665, -2.301023 a lovely spot with a very nice breeze blowing at present. Will stay here for a couple of days and explore the area. We were talking to a fella last night and he gave us some ideas of where to explore. Still a lot of traffic on the towpath but at least it's quite wide here, so there's room to move.

Jun 24, 2020 - It's all up hill

We walked along the river Avon and then up a steep track to the little chapel on top of the hill. Spotted the squirrel on the wall and just by chance captured the blackbird in the pic as well. The view was lovely. then back along the river to the weir where we went back on to the canal towpath and returned to the boat for a little sit down!! It's quite warm today - having a heat wave apparently.

Jun 23, 2020 - Avoncliff

We have only travelled about a mile from our last mooring, (1/2 hour this morning). We came across a lovely section of canal which has a solid brick wall to moor up against and no nettles and thistles, so we decided to stay here for a couple of days. There's plenty of foot traffic and bikes (and the occasional train goes through down in the gully below us), so it's quite pleasant. We walked down to the aquaduct, about a mile away, which we will travel over when we set off again.

Jun 17, 2020 - A wander around Bradford

There are some lovely old buildings here in Bradford on Avon, a feast for the eyes. I think this wonky house is only still standing because it's adjoined by the houses either side! Another jigsaw completed, I'm now jigsaw less and there aren't any shops open that sell them, so I'll have to find something else to pass the time away.

Jun 15, 2020 - A little bit further

This beautiful blue dragonfly hovered around the vegetation opposite the boat yesterday. We walked a 10km round trip into Trowbridge yesterday to go to Sainsburys for some groceries, and on the way back we passed the Toll house. Very quaint. We're now about a mile from Bradford on Avon and decided to moor before reaching the town - just as well we did! We walked in to town and it was very crowded with boats and people so we will stay where we are for a couple of days where it's relatively quiet....

May 4, 2019 - Bradford On Avon

A two hour train journey this morning brought us to Bradford On Avon and our rental house for the next four nights. We had a surprise at the train station waiting for us – Pat & Madeleine Donohoe our friends from Trowbridge (a town quite close to this one) met us along with their granddaughter Sophia. They very kindly transported us and our luggage to the house. After getting the luggage in the house, we had lunch at a cafe on the canal in front of the house and then Pat took us to the grocery store where we could stock up. We had a great...
