Aug 1, 2015 - Farewell

Hi Everyone Well our 2nd European Adventure has come to an end and we fly home to Australia in a couple of days. Our motorhome has been packed up and is now safely parked in a storage facility (really it’s in a paddock alongside 200 or so other motorhomes and caravans) until we return. It’s been a busy couple of weeks catching up with friends and family. Many thanks to Alasdair & Caroline and Dave & Lorraine for having us park on their drives overnight. We look forward to seeing Dave in Australia sometime in December as he is participating...

Jan 3, 2011 - Happy New Year

Happy New Year to you all. Hope you had a fantastic Christmas with lots of pressies and you welcomed 2011 in with a bang! We started our festivities with a few drinks at our local, The Fox & Castle, on Christmas Eve before strolling (or sliding as the roads were solid ice!) down to the Jolly Gardeners for a few more drinkies. We met some of the friendly locals that we had met previously. We had a great evening and ended the night with a couple of drink party invitations. We had a slow start to Christmas day as Paul was not well, he was full...

Dec 24, 2010 - Christmas Eve

All that ‘Dreaming of a White Christmas’ has come true. The snow has been here nearly a week and shows no sign of melting. I’ve enjoyed stomping about in my wellington boots, walking were no man has walked before, leaving fresh foot prints in the snow :--) Everything goes eerily quiet after a snow fall, the snow muffles any sound. Seen lots of dad’s taking their kids for toboggan rides. It’s been extremely cold, our lowest temp has been -14 deg c, but we are warm in the van. One morning the water pipes in the van froze so I was melting...

Dec 10, 2010 - Winter has arrived

We’re now used to living in a very small space. Everything has a home and things have to put away once used. The housework is fun, done in 10 minutes. The laundry is another matter. It has taken a few attempts but I think we’ve learnt the knack of using a launderette. It’s quite the highlight of our week :--). I have spent a couple of days taking Dad backwards and forwards to the hospital for check-ups and to have monitors for his blood pressure to be fitted for 24 hour periods. He is doing OK but I believe the stroke certainly gave him a...

Nov 23, 2010 - Settled into our new home

Hi All We woke up to a really wet & cold day so we thought to test out our vans shower instead of making a mad dash to the shower block in the rain. The shower worked beautifully, plenty of hot, steaming water. Feeling refreshed I stepped out of the shower and found myself standing in a pool of water. The shower had leaked into the main living area of the van. After lots of mopping up we found the culprit. A drainage pipe under the shower cubicle had broken but the Hymer people came to the rescue and sent us the replacement part. Paul did a...

Nov 13, 2010 - Our New Home

G’day to all Sorry it’s been a while between updates, just don’t know where the time goes! Great excitement, Paul found a hedgehog scurrying in Mum and Dad’s garden. We all grabbed a torch and scared the poor little critter trying to catch a glimpse of him among the foliage. Mum was thrilled so next day out we go to buy hedgehog food (yes, food specially made for hedgehogs!) and a hedgehog house. Every evening Mum diligently puts out food for Mr Prickles and every morning the feast has been eaten. (I don’t like to mention it to Mum but it...

Oct 27, 2010 - Buy Motor Home

Hi again, More Bank stuff - It’s now 3 weeks in the UK and we are still having problems with the National Westminster bank. One week to change our address, one week to get our debit cards then 3 days to activate them. We went to the bank again today to sort out Internet access to our account because the on-line registration failed saying “the system is temporarily unavailable”. This is the same message we have received for the last 5 weeks !!. After nearly 1 hour at the bank they discovered that our date of birth information was missing...

Oct 27, 2010 - Other Stuff

While we were up north in Grimsby (it looks as grey as it sounds!) we spent the night in a Chinese run hotel. Met a very interesting Chinese gentleman who not only seemed to run the hotel/restaurant single handed but was a famous Chinese artist who has a place in the Guinness Book of Records for painting the longest watercolour (200 metres) on a single sheet of paper. All the walls in the restaurant were covered in his paintings, a very talented man. He also has an MBE awarded by the Queen for services to the Asian community. While visiting...

Oct 14, 2010 - Arrive UK

G’day all, I thought we should let you know that we have arrived in the UK ☺. The flight was long but bearable thanks to the individual entertainment systems. The weather has been mixed but not cold, up to 20 deg C. The natives seem to wear more clothes than us, perhaps it’s because we’re tough Aussies ☺ We’ve had a few problems accessing our UK bank account, it’s an account that we’ve had for more than 25 years. They said it will take 1 week to change our address to a UK address (Liz’s parents address) then another week before we know if...

Jan 19, 2008 - Bracknell

So one Sat. we decided to spread out, of Reading that is, and we took our first train ride!! Josh was super excited. The train reminded me of the BART back home, which I have only ridden twice when Tara came to visit. The seats where very comfy and Josh kicked back and relaxed on our way home saying that the seats "are more comfy than my bed". The mural pictures are of the under the street walkway in Bracknell from the train station to the bus station. I didn't include any pictures of the indoor water park, Coral Reef, that we went to,...
