Jun 3, 2017 - Tintagel - Camelot Castle - aka Fawlty Towers

Saturday We said goodbye to our great hosts at Queen Matilda pub, Lynne & Matt, the accommodation & food was exceptional. Matt told us about the must see The Common & "Winston Ice creams". So we did, best ice cream in the UK, all made on site, was a real treat. The Common consists of 650 acres of open area, where anyone has access including dogs, cattle, donkeys, horses (beautiful Clydesdales) etc. They even walk all over the golf course, & have right of way - bizarre view with long hairy cattle in between golfers. After about 3.5hr drive...

Jun 2, 2017 - Avening (Bristol ) - day 3

Friday We got to Bradford on Avon in the morning & headed out for a leisurely bike ride for 2 hrs toward Bath & return. The narrow boats on the canal were a mix of rentals & permanent abodes. They have a max length of 72ft, with special locations called Windings where the canal is widened to allow a boat to turn around - basically a tedious 12 point turn. Max boat speed allowed along the canal is 4 knots, which is very slow. A lot of boats were moored, even one selling freshly filtered coffee or tea. There are two major Viaducts which...

Jun 1, 2017 - Avening - day 2 (Bath)

Thursday Plans to get out early were thwarted, as breakfast here at the pub, starts at 8.00pm. Got into Bath about 10:30am, car park looked problematic, thankfully there is a long stay parking area. We connected up to a 2hr walking tour, with a group of about 20+. These are free, our guide John was excellent, a history lesson from the Roman Saxon ages right through to the 19th century, and how the town of Bath evolved over time. The tour covered all the major sites, of up market living at The Crescent, The Circus both semi circular...

2017 But's Adventure

May 31, 2017 - Avening, Cotswold - day 1

Wednesday The trip down to Avening was about 3.5 hr drive mostly on the motorways, heaps of trucks, though better behaved than Aussie drivers. The Poms are a lot more lay back, more considerate on the road, with most of the rural roads between villages are what we would class as 1.5 lanes wide! So with cars parked on one side in a line, you have to negotiate a lot of one lane conditions with 2x way traffic, it has been a tad hairy at times with only millimetres to spare. We are staying in a very cute pub, The Queen Matilda -(for 3...
