Apr 20, 2020 - April 2020

Well, all confined for this month. Every week a new rule more strict than the one before. Now we are allowed to go outside only for grocery or pharmacy shopping. Permit are delivered no more than every 3 days (5 for ATM) with time slot. And only 1 pers per car. However we are still having fun. We celebrated Virg 's birthday, eater with a treasure hunt to find the eggs. And we are having fun by creating some movies the we for ourselves or for every friend birthday. Bahia, Aloe and Marin are quite good with e-learning. Most of their lesson...

Mar 26, 2020 - March Dubai and Aloe 11 years old

This month will open a new history page. Coronavirus has spread everywhere in the world. China is in confinement since January, then Italy. Dubai just announced on March 4th that schools will be closed from March 8th. France will follow one week later. Every day something else seems to close; until government asks us to stay confined in our house. What a weird birthday! Aloe is really sad not to share this event with her friends. We try to make this day as fun as it could be. At least , we have zoom now to allow us video conf with friends.

Mar 19, 2020 - Liwa before confinement

Schools are closed for 2 weeks now and kids are on vacations. Total confinement has not been announced yet and if some friends start to confine themselves home without any instructions from government, we choose to do our probably last trip to Liwa with Clara and Antoine, Marthe and Madeleine. Liwa is the world biggest send desert. It is located in Abu Dhabi at the border with Saoudi. Dunes are really impressive there. They can reach 200 m. You find different colours of send and big field of salt. Each time we go to Liwa, it looks the same...

Mar 18, 2020 - Coming Home

Home via Singapore and Dubai Day 196 The hotel room is lovely with comfortable bed and an extra bed brought up for Marcus. Although I am absolutely exhausted I am unable to sleep as I am terrified our flights will be cancelled. I toss and turn whilst Mark and Marcus sleep like babies. Eventually, I decide to get up and make my way down to the terminal to check on flights and find out where we need to go to catch our plane to Singapore. Dressing quietly I then make my way down to reception to catch the buggy down to the departure lounge....

Mar 2, 2020 - Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Today we got to visit Dubai. Speaking for myself, I was more impressed with Abu Dhabi although both cities shared a common history and Dubai is also going “build them until we sink” crazy. Abu Dhabi just seemed to be a little cleaner and organized. Our first stop on the tour was the Dubai Museum. This showed some of the history of the town and was fairly interesting. Our second stop was the open market for gold, silver and spices. You can haggle over the price of the “workmanship” of an item, but not the basic cost of the gold or silver....

Jan 1, 2020 - Jan/ Feb: a weird start of the year

A weird start of the year... To start with: Vinz' birthday on January 1st (like every year). To celebrate it, he will have a 45 min session of e-foil. Amazing! 10 days letter, 1st deception with our week-end in Liwa cancelled because of a storm in Dubai. The wind is very strong and it is raining a lot. All is floating: houses, streets, malls. But Vinz has this great idea to go kite surfing. He has an accident! 9 days at the hospital in order to have a surgery that will finally not happen. From Now Vinz is working from home as he cannot...

Nov 3, 2019 - Dubai (In Transit)

@@@@@@@ KAPOORS ON THE ROAD There were no direct flights from Croatia to India so we chose to fly with Emirates through Dubai. It wasn’t until after we’d completed the booking that we realized that we would be flying with the Emirates low-cost airline called FlyDubai. It turned out to be okay as the plane from Zagreb to Dubai had barely fifty passengers and we had comfortable bulkhead seats. However, I swear they parked our plane out in the desert somewhere because it took over half an hour to ride on a bus from the plane to the terminal...

Oct 11, 2019 - Cone crusher

Just arrived in Dubai and ensconced in the hotel - room is literally 10m from the dining room. Pity we are too tired to drink as it is unlimited drinks! Slight issue getting to Lisbon airport and dropping the car off. J ran over a traffic cone. As we walked towards the terminal building C saw a crushed cone lying on the road. We fly out at 10:15 tomorrow - so we might get a few hours sleep!
