Jan 15, 2021 - Happy new year 2021!

One more year behind us! Our grand-parents were telling us the war, we will tell our grand kids 2020 the COVID :-) It was a time where no one could get outside of their house. School, shops were closed. People could not get to work. We had to reinvent our world. Luckily we could still get connected to our friends and family via a virtual world, unlikely we were going even deeper into our screen. We were even doing sports via zoom. What was impossible became possible. And for the Bertin family, actually, it was a great time all together,...

Dec 25, 2020 - Merry Christmas

1st Christmas in Dubai. For the kids 1st Christmas they did not come back to France. This time no wave catched us :-) It was nice spending time with our friends. We had an amazing Christmas dinner on the 24th with Cedric and Lucie and family and on the 23rd another one with our wonderful neighbours: Philou and Patricia, and Julian and Anouk and families.

Dec 13, 2020 - Air balloon

We could not come back to France this winter. We were a bit disappointed but we found amazing entertainments for this month. We went with Laure and Luc and family to do air ballooning. Quite amazing to feel the balloon coming up to the air. Followed by land rover tour until a camp in the desert to have a good breakfast and so much fun with camels riding.

Dec 4, 2020 - Hatta

We went for a week-end in Hatta with Anahita and Oliver and Anahita's family. It was our first time camping in the mountains of UAE. It is definitely less confortable that the sand but it is somehow beautiful. We did pedalo in the Hatta damm. 1st day we arrived there, it was crowded, we run away but the following day, everyone disappeared so we enjoyed 1 hour in the lake. Well especially Anahita who loved it sooo much that she cannot wait to come back :-)

Nov 27, 2020 - Liwa

Each opportunity to go to Liwa (the biggest sand desert in the world), we take it. It is so beautiful. The Dunes can be very hight, up to 200 m so we feel safer to go with our guide Marco. We can all drive in the desert, even the kids...when it is flat so. Again we had a wonderful time with our friends.

Jun 6, 2020 - Total deconfinement?

Beaches are now open but you have to wear your mask (except in the water). Have you ever tried to wear a mask by 40+ degrees? Gathering is still not allowed? Every outside entertainment is now accepted with 50% of capacity. Youhoo! Freedom! As Usual June is a very emotional and intense month. Friends are leaving and this year it was very difficult to do big farewell parties but we found our ways. A bit of craziness is good after all this months confined. Drinks with a couple of friends on the top of the city, yacht, limo, and the yellow...

May 8, 2020 - Deconfinement

With the ramadan coming, the government ease a bit the rules. We are now allowed to go outside of the house as soon as we wear a mask and we stay 2 meters form each other. No more than 3 people together. Masq is also mandatory in the car even if you are alone??? Not really allowed or not really clear but we start to see some friends (little comity) It is really hot outside but so happy to go out that we go for a bicycle tour.

Mar 26, 2020 - March Dubai and Aloe 11 years old

This month will open a new history page. Coronavirus has spread everywhere in the world. China is in confinement since January, then Italy. Dubai just announced on March 4th that schools will be closed from March 8th. France will follow one week later. Every day something else seems to close; until government asks us to stay confined in our house. What a weird birthday! Aloe is really sad not to share this event with her friends. We try to make this day as fun as it could be. At least , we have zoom now to allow us video conf with friends.

Mar 19, 2020 - Liwa before confinement

Schools are closed for 2 weeks now and kids are on vacations. Total confinement has not been announced yet and if some friends start to confine themselves home without any instructions from government, we choose to do our probably last trip to Liwa with Clara and Antoine, Marthe and Madeleine. Liwa is the world biggest send desert. It is located in Abu Dhabi at the border with Saoudi. Dunes are really impressive there. They can reach 200 m. You find different colours of send and big field of salt. Each time we go to Liwa, it looks the same...

Mar 18, 2020 - Coming Home

Home via Singapore and Dubai Day 196 The hotel room is lovely with comfortable bed and an extra bed brought up for Marcus. Although I am absolutely exhausted I am unable to sleep as I am terrified our flights will be cancelled. I toss and turn, checking my emails and flight announcements continuously, whilst Mark and Marcus sleep like babies. Eventually, I decide to get up and make my way down to the terminal to check on flights and find out where we need to go to catch our plane to Singapore. Dressing quietly I then make my way down to...
