@@@@@@@ KAPOORS ON THE ROAD It was clear that we were not going to reach the island of Djerba before dark, especially when we found ourselves swallowed up in the heavy traffic in Sfax, Tunisia’s second largest city. Our progress was slowed even further by the construction of a large overpass and the detours that it forced on us. We carried on, knowing that there was another city enroute, where we could stay for the night. We had a relaxed sail of about 40 nautical miles from Jerba Island to Gabes. The port was much less frantic but the port officials still very friendly. Gabes is a busy Tunisian town of about 115,000 and is a gateway for trips to the desert but is not a big tourist destination which makes it much more pleasant. We wandered into town in the evening to find some dinner and ended up at a kebab shop. Six kebabs with chips and 5 soft drinks for 16 dinar (A$14). Esta nota no tiene más justificación que el hecho de que mis mapas queden chéveres o estéticos, es decir, por esta ciudad he pasado en el autobús de Túnez a Trípoli en algún momento antes de la medianoche y sólo está siendo nombrada o recordada aquí para que no aparezca una línea en mis mapas (en este sistema) uniendo ambas capitales a través del Mediterráneo.
