After a few weeks on Langkawi Island, we made the decision to head north along the west coast into Thailand. Lucky for us, the Thai customs and travel visas for Canadians recently changed, which means we can travel via ferry and still get the 30 day visitor stamp without going thru the full visa application process .... whooohoo! We spent 30-days in Malaysia. We crossed the border at the northwest corner with Thailand and made our way east as soon as we could through the mountainous interior to Kota Bharu. The remainder of our ride was spent bumbling down the east coast to Johor Bahru. We snorkled on the Perhentian Islands, flew kites on the beach in Kuala Terengganu, surfed the waves of Cherating, visited Chini Lake, and enjoyed a parade celebrating the birthday of the goddess of the sea in Kota Tinggi. Feb 28, 2008 - Satun

We got the boat from Ko Phi Phi at 9.30am and then got a bus pretty much straight away when we arrived at Krabi. The driver who took us was wearing an Osama Bin Laden t-shirt which was a bit weird! He took us for the first 2 hours of the journey and we transferred at Trang where a different driver took us the rest of the way which took another 2.5/3 hours. We got the driver to drop us at a hotel from our South-East Asia Lonely Planet guide where we got a room for 230 Baht (about GBP 3). Bargain! We went out for a meal shortly afterwards...
