Feb 19, 2016 - A Day Of Rest - At Last!

Vilai left early to fly up to Chiang Mai to attend the opening of a friends new Hostel but Brian stayed behind with us. After breakfast Viv & I walked down to the beach & then along the beach road as far as the Bang Saray food market where we wandered around the various stalls. It was really hot so Viv decided to take a motorbike taxi back to the house while I tried to log a couple of geocaches on my way back along the beach. I think she just likes holding on to the driver on these motorbikes! A simple lunch, a swim & then we both had a...

Feb 18, 2016 - Brian & Vilai

I did wake up thinking that it was time to get up but I had been fooled by the lights in the carriage being left on. When I checked it was only 2.36am & I had difficulty getting back to sleep. We did have a bit of fun watching a woman trying to find her mobile phone. She had plugged it in at a nearby socket in the corridor beside a bunk to charge it but when she looked in the morning the charger was there but the phone was not. The next hour or so was spent with various people searching under beds for the missing phone. We never did find...

May 13, 2007 - The Farangs are in Koh Chang!

Hello All, Yesterday was quite a tiring day... We left Bangkok at 8am and after 7 hours in a mini-bus, 1 hour on a boat and 30 minutes in a tuk-tuk finally arrived in Koh-Chang... Phewee what a trip!! On the plus side, we did meet a really nice bunch of fellow travelers (2 girls from New-York, 1 English girl, 1 Kiwi, 1 Ozzie and a couple of lads from Stevenage - small world) and after a long day of being locked up in vehicles it was great to let our hair down at night... and BOY did we let our hair doooowwwwnnnn! Suffice to say that our...

Feb 2, 2007 - Battambang (Cambodia) to Ko Chang Island in the Gulf of Thailand

Given Vix's clear eagerness to continue exploring Cambodia, I decided to speed up our normal travelling pace (nice and leisurely) with a plan to head for the nearest border crossing as fast as possible, get to the Thailand Gulf coast and be on the island of Ko Chang by dusk. Having obtained our Vietnam visa from the Vietnamese Consulate in Battambang the day before, (and thus saving a long trip to Bangkok) with another spurious payment, I arranged for a shared taxi to take pick us up at 7.00am to take us to Pailin, the nearest border town....

Oct 12, 2006 - Ko Samet, We have found paradise!

Hi everyone!!!! We are now on the island of Ko Samet and it is absolutely gorgeous! Getting here was a "treat" though... We started with a Taxi to the central bus depot, then a "VIP" bus to Rayong.... It was about 3 1/2 hours, but VERY nice. Then, we were literally mauled when we got off the bus! Jess and I have got the "No thank you" with our head down, down to a tee! So we found the "local" bus finally to take us to Ban phe...(Language issues!) It was actually a pick up truck with two wood bench slabs! That was "actually" fun... Arriving...

Feb 17, 2006 - Making our way to Koh Chang

We got up to get our bus at 8am. An hour and a half later we were finally on our way! This is something that we have gradually got used to here in Thailand - things are very disorganised and the language barrier means that we hardly ever know what's going on! This was definitely the case today. Well, until our drivers switched and the new one spoke English: to say, "don't worry about my driving. I accident many times and learn from my mistake." That was the point I started banging on the window, shouting "Let me out, let me out!!" In my...

Dec 31, 2005 - Bangkok to Koh Samet

Up early for coach (late) to coast and the boat to Koh Samet. Long journey. Hotel nice in Koh Samet - big improvement on smelly dump in Bangkok. Had some drinks at hotel bar then headed to the busier section of the island to check out venues for tonights celebrations. Had dinner while there then back to hotel for showers and a few drinks before getting in the back of another truck (only form of taxi here) to "Jep's". Great atmosphere. Constant fireworks, flame throwing and lanterns/fairy lights by the beach. Saw what we thought were orange...

Dec 18, 2005 - Pattaya beach
