Oct 5, 2018 - A bus in Thailand

I didn't take any pictures today. A few moments of video. This morning we got up and got packed. Looking at the bus ticket it said Phrae to Ubon. So the driver showed up. Took us to the bus station. He was trying to help us find the bus. I showed him the ticket, he said. Oh no Den Chai. It says Phrae, no no it Den Chai. We go inside to a Booth to check. They try to offer me a bus to den Chai, but it not leave til 9 PM. Well, it's 10 AM now, and our bus leaves at 11:20.Trying to explain that we already have tickets for that time. Finally, I...

Oct 4, 2018 - Wow!

This morning was truly a wonderful experience. We decided to get up and go to the KH to try to meet friends, and maybe go in the ministry with them. Jenny discovered a blister on her toe. She had some things she needed a little mommy time to catch up on. So the girls and I went. I called the man who picked us up the other day. He took us and dropped us off at the KH. He was worried because he saw the meeting times we're not for today. But I assured him we are here to meet friends. And are early. It was about 8:15. There is a padlock on the...

Oct 3, 2018 - Big C, Home Pro

I forgot to mention breakfast yesterday. They brought us some rice soup, with little bits of pork in it. It was quite tasty, a good energy filling meal. The girls even liked it. Today though, it was near 10 and they hadn't brought anything. Finally she came to the door with some bread crackery crunchy bready sweet things. And said she didn't know we we were up. She took us to big C. It's a nice one, not as big as Bangkok's, but has plenty of stuff. A Thai KFC, food court, bank, play area. Really cool place. We got a few things for the room....

Oct 2, 2018 - waking up in a new place

It is clear that we are in a completely different place from the caos of Bangkok. We woke up to being able to open the doors and windows, and enjoy a nice morning temperature with an off the mountains breeze coming in. Jenny was able to get a few good pictures of the property. There are also a couple mixed in today from the train yesterday. I was quite content just to rest. I was a little disappointed with one thing. We came to Phrae because a brother who raised his kids here invited us to come up and rest a few days. And chat about their...

Sep 16, 2007 - Indigo & Hyancth Basket weavers - On to Phrae and Phayao

Spent the morning in Phrae at Mo Hom, indigo dyers (mother/daughter). Mrs. Thongsuk showed us around her work area and explained the process. The leaves are seeped with water and lime and then after a time strained to yield the indigo paste. Her daughters persuaded her to combine batik with indigo and she showed us her stamps and wax work area. She had teak carved stencils and stencils made out of copper. She uses both the big and small leaf indigo. The small leaf is stronger, the big leaf serves well when the small leaf is not in season....
