Feb 24, 2013 - Koh Phi Phi Island

I don’t want to leave...ever...This island truly feels like home. A huge part of that is because of my new Papa! The first couple nights here we stayed at a guesthouse. It was cute and cozy but Judy and Dolly were both sick and we needed a bigger room so we all weren’t sitting in a box full of germs. Just around the corner was a hotel with with nice big rooms, air condition and a hot shower (not that you really need it here but it’s something you miss when you don’t have). After sitting and talking with Papa we learned that his daughter was...

Dec 12, 2012 - Krabi and Phi Phi

Hello from Koh Jum Sorry it has taken so long to update you all, my wifi hasn't been amazing. The hostel I stayed in at Krabi was amazing, I was in a mixed dorm of 10 people but the beds were nice and the shower facilities were clean. I met a girl called Hayley on my first night, we went for dinner and then to a bar where I was drinking beer out of a coffee mug. As it was the kings the bar weren't allowed to give me a bottle of beer or put it in a glass. The next day, Hayley's friend Kathrin arrived and we hired mopeds and headed off to...

Dec 7, 2012 - Phi-Phi Round 2 :)

After 6 nights in Lanta we are healed and ready for some fun in my favourite island – Phi Phi! When we arrived in Phi Phi we hadn’t booked anywhere but we were so lucky, we managed to get a 4 bed dorm in a brand new hostel right on the beach was perfect and cheap – Blanco’s. The only downfall was it was next to a drum and bass club ‘stoners’ that went on till 4am but that’s ok as we were out till 5ish every night. Phi Phi was as awesome as I remembered it to be and it was so great as most of the people we had met in Koh Phangan in our...

Nov 12, 2012 - Paradise Phi Phi - 'The Beach'

I was feeling very tired when I got up at 7am, the hostel people were so lovely they insisted coming to make sure I was up at this time. I quickly got dressed and met the 7 lads in the hostel and before long we were on the 2 hour ferry ride to Phuket. Everyone just slept the whole way and we knew it we were in Phi Phi, an island on the west of Thailand – south of Phuket. The weather was beautiful and the streets are really quant, lined with little shops and so much nicer than Patong. We went to our hostel ‘One Phi-Phi’. And wow we opted...

Jul 9, 2012 - Phuket and Phi Phi

Hi all. Im writng this from a very rainy Koh Phi Phi. Its actually not stopped raining since we arrived on the west coast of Thailand. The bad luck started when we left koh phangnan about 5 days ago. We booked a bus - boat ticket to get us to phuket and we were told one bus after the boat and it will take 8hrs in total. The journey actually involved 2 taxis, 1 boat and 5, yes 5, buses ! It took 13hrs all together not 8. Must have been due to the waves of full mooners leaving at the same time. Anyway we got to Phuket and checked in. On the...

Apr 3, 2012 - Koh Phi Phi

April 3 to 8 Koh Phi Phi We took a ferry from Phuket to the island of Phi Phi. Two bays, crystal blue waters, steep rocks faces = one beautiful place. We will definitely come back here again. We enrolled in the Open Water Diver Certification course which took up most of our time on the island. Watching movies, reading material, writing tests, and diving twice each day. The world underwater is incredible! So much to see under there and overwhelming with so much life all around you. We saw an octopus, jellyfish, razorfish, lionfish,...

My Big Trip

Feb 17, 2012 - Koh Phi Phi

Well, I always say that everything happens for a reason. I couldn't be more thrilled that I couldn't find accommodations on Phi Phi (that were up to standard, didn't cost a fortune, weren't in the thick of the party zone, and not infested) and instead opted for a one day snorkel excursion there instead. Phi Phi was never on my list of must see places but I figured since I was only an hour away that it would silly to miss it. Part of the snorkel tour included a stop at Maya Bay, made famous by the Leonardo di Caprio movie "The Beach". It was...

Nov 14, 2011 - Calandar pictures

Koh Phi Phi. I love this whole van picking you up at your hotel business. Yet another minivan picks us up, takes us to a pier, where we begin our excursion to Koh Phi Phi. They want to take your picture so they can sell it to you in a frame afterwards. Hahaha poor photographer...when it was my turn she was like, "Uh, all alone?! Single?!!" in this horrified tone. I happily answered yep! and let her snap the shot of single ol me. There just aren't any words to describe how amazing it is here. The pictures you see...there is no photo shop...

Apr 22, 2011 - Phi Phi

Everyone without exception says how much they love idyllic Phi Phi Island. We are clearly the exception as we did not like the Island nor consider it idyllic. Maybe it is the contrast to lovely Ko Lanta but Phi Phi just seemed like a busy, very touristy resort. For people who enjoy water based activities by day and heavy partying at night it is the ideal location but given that we are not fond of either of these activities this is not the Island for us. Granted there are some nice aspects and we did manage to wile away several hours in a...

Where's Jolly?

Nov 28, 2010 - Thailand (Island Hopping)

Thailand Island hopping from the 22nd November until the 5th December. Kho Lipe - one hour Speed ferry from Langkawi to Kho Lipe in Thailand. Kho Lipe small island inhabited with a population of a few hundred. We arrived by boat and had to go to immigration as we'd entered Thailand. This was very funny as the immigration office consisted of a bamboo hut!! I could've giving in Dave's passport instead of mine and they would not have noticed. Kho Lipe had crystal clear water white white sand. We stayed in a beach bungalow right on the beach....

Jun 15, 2010 - Explore and snorkel

Riffat was unwell again today, so Remi and I set out to explore the area a bit. The bays are nice and the scenery (when you can see it) is lovely. Most of the interior was uninteresting though. There were loads of facilities for us - places to eat, shop, drink, stay and arrange activities but no other local life that we saw. But I guess that's the point of the place now. It's somewhere that people come to have fun, but it could have been anywhere sunny in the world and not have been much different. So, it is what it is and the best thing to...
