Jun 20, 2017 - Thailand

The cruise ship is nice enough. Dad says we have been on it before, and it did look familiar to me, but who can remember? The Voyager of the Seas. The best part of the cruise ship story, however, is what didn't happen. Mom had gotten a text saying my brother Karl, his wife, Sheryl, and teenage son Karson would join us. Karl works for one of the Airlines, so they can fly virtually for free--but stand-by. It actually works better to make decisions last minute so that you can see what flight has open seats. They booked a last minute cabin and...

Mar 6, 2017 - Back to Bangkok - our last 'City-Break' on this trip

I was sniffle this morning and kept sneezing so not much of a swim for me. This all stopped when we got into a taxi to take us to Bangkok. 1,300baht £30.27 which took 2.5 - 3 house. Mad driver stopped as a gas station for taxis and we swapped to a smaller taxi with different driver (for some reason). New Siam Riverside Hotel seems great and we have a river- view balcony on the 2nd floor. Found a great short-cut through an alley-way to Khao-san Road where bought 4 T - Shirts for 600 baht £14 - seems a lot but much better quality than the...

Mar 5, 2017 - Last day in Pattaya

Took a walk to the beach which was being developed our end and had big hoarding boards up. Didn't bother to walk a few mies further to take a closer look as seen how naff it is on the internet. Decided still not to bother with 'Walking Street' either as lots of bars and prostitutes. Seen enough ladies here with dirty old European men thank you! Pool & balcony again, ho hum!

Mar 3, 2017 - Another day listening to birds

By the pool all day. Decided not to go to 'walking street' after looking at photos on the net! Very sleazy here (not on our resort - although we did witness a drunk Russian singing as he walked past our balcony with a young thai lady 񏘣 Tim read a prostitute costs 1000 baht which is £23.31 today...poor ladies! Evening on balcony writing my 'Left' song.

Mar 1, 2017 - Green Park Resort - Pattaya- Thailand

Floppy day by wonderful pool swimming & Sudoku. Walked to Tesco Lotus and had Papaya salad for lunch which was nice and spicy with peanuts in it...yum. Bit fed up with my tankini taking so long to dry but I looked like a sack of spuds in the cheapo one I tried on in Tesco so will stick with it. Evening on balcony again.

Feb 28, 2017 - Flew to Bangkok then car to Pattaya

Taxi at 9am. $16 £13 Flew Airbus 320 1.5 hours to Bangkok SHYTE meals on board - noodles or rice some of which had 'chuen' in the title! $10 for 2! £8.04 Got greeted by pre-booked driver (PT Taxis - Trip Advisor tip) holding up a 'Tim Hundy' sign. Sped very fast here so only gave him the 1000 Baht £23.88 (this was £13 more than spending hours on buses). Green Park Resort has a nice room with balcony & best swimming pool ever Tim says - I didn't try it as zapped but looking forward to tomorrow. Walked downtown a 200m for supplies (fly spray,...

Jun 11, 2016 - Jomtien

A good nights sleep to reset the body clock, followed by a good breakfast in the hotel. then we walked down to the beach. Low season here so plenty of room. Settled in at one of the beach chair and umbrella places - less than $2 to hire for the day, and we were the only ones at this particular one. They have cleaned up the beach here since the last time we were here, and have areas marked off for swimming only which keeps the jet skis and other boats out of the way, a good move I think. The water temperature was perfect and the area where...

Jan 23, 2016 - Pattaya: Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera!

Well Pattaya is a place I can easily cross off the return-to list. If you need a postage stamp size beach that you want to share with a world of Euros, perhaps you would enjoy it more than me. There were flashes of the old Lauderdale, just Asian flavored. It made Phuket look pretty tame and civil, but granted, this was daytime only. Something about it just kept making me think of STDs. One intriguing bit...after the OPs on the trip dragged me away from my wifi reverie on the pier toward the shuttle to the mall and beach... was the Sanctuary...

Apr 3, 2015 - Pattaya, Thailand

The port of Laem Chabang is an industrial wasteland but is the gateway to Bangkok, which is about two and half hour drive away. As we have spent some time before in Bangkok we decided instead to see the one site worth seeing “ The Sanctuary of Truth “ in Pattaya. The city of Pattaya while modern, is notoriously sleazy and devoid of charm despite its lovely beaches. So it was a real surprise to drive into the parking area and see this beautiful temple that is constructed entirely of wood and ornately carved. The temple is covered inside and...

Jan 1, 2015 - New Years Happenings in Pattaya

Today, we head to our final destination, Koh Yao Noi. To get there, we're taking a taxi, bus, airplane, another taxi, and a boat so needless to say, we have some time to catch up on the last 3 wonderful days.  After leaving the River Kwai in the Kanchanaburi province, we headed to Ayuttaya, the former capital city of Thailand. On the way we stopped at the former summer palace of the king. (side note: the people here LOVE their king. They have photos/shrines EVERYWHERE.) It was one of the most beautiful and tranquil places I've ever been....

Mar 22, 2014 - Chiang Mai: 5/3/14 -18/3/14

05/03/14 We arrive in Chiang Mai train station, take a Songsaw( similar to Baht bus in Pattaya)half hour to the old City & check into our hostel, Manee House on Soi 7, which is nestled close to everything but in quiet side street with its own pool, all for less then ten pounds per night. We LOVED Chiang Mai!! It has so much Characture, really nice vibe, friendly locals, quirky side streets, cafes & bars. Really chilled out & so much to see in walking distance, all laid out in a grid encased by a wall ( so its hard/ not impossible to get...
