Feb 17, 2013 - Koh Lanta

Well we arrived in Phuket via speedboat which took approx 1.5 hrs compared to the other alternative which is a ferry and it would take over 3 hours. After boat ride we took a 35 min taxi ride and finally arrived at our hotel. as luck would have it when we checked in our room was not ready so they upgraded us to a 3 room ocean view suite. (first time for everything). Here for three days and then will make our way to Chiang Mai via Asia Air. All for now.

Apr 13, 2012 - The end

2nd April Writing this last blog from the airport! Honestly the whole of Koh Lanta has passed by without comment. We came to Koh Lanta on the advice of a local girl who thought it had a similar feel to Lipe. We couldn't understand this at first as its being much bigger with cars and proper roads however on investigation there are huge parts that have very little development and most is very low key with bungalows at varying stages of poshness and some laidback beach bars mostly with a reggae theme. What would these places have done without...

Mar 28, 2012 - Koh Lipe

25th march Did I say that Langkawi was beautiful? So if it is then Koh Lipe is drop dead gorgeous. A bit like comparing a pebble to a jewel. If you bring to mind that perfect island with white sandy beaches, crystal clear sea, wonderful coral and colourful fish within paddling distance from the shore then you may have it. We have arrived in our normal way, by accident rather than planning. It's not one of the famous Thai islands is it but there just happened to be a Direct ferry from Langkawi as its the first of the Thai islands from...

Jan 17, 2011 - Ko Lanta Island

Wow!! After a full day of travel..we are finally on the beach in Thailand!! We opted to go to Krabi by air and see the inside of the Andaman Sea instead of at Phuket. After the flight, a bus to Krabi town, then a mini bus to our Ko Lanta Island hotel, Lanta Island Resort. Left in the am at 7:45, arrived at the hotel at 6:45. Phew...Now it's after lunch, the next day, and being a slug on the beach. I inquited about a snorkeling trip for tomorrow and Adrienne has a massage scheduled for later today. Took a morning walk up the beach before it...

May 25, 2008 - koh Lanta

The night ferry Sal and I took from Koh Tao to the mainland was horrible. As you board the ferry you are given a number which is where you will be sleeping. So we climbed up to the upper deck to find our beds for the night. Basically there are lots of matresses laid out on the floor with numbers on the wall above them. Each double mattress has 3 pillows on it and that slither of space is all you have for the evening. The lady in charge of the beds had put all the tourists on one side and all the locals on the other side. Enforced...

My Big Adventure

Feb 27, 2008 - Watching time melt away at Ao Nin on Koh Lanta

We are a family of beach bums, all of us with a light but evenly distributed coating of sand. We've been staying in a rustic bungalow on the beach and in a bar (and not a sand bar). There are both pros and cons associated with its location. Pro: In an area where prime beachfront spots are dominated by restaurants/bars, our humble abode is on the beach with a wonderful view and is steps from lapping ocean water. Con: Our bungalow is located in the bar. Pro: Saleem and I can have an active nightlife without leaving our front porch, inlcuding...

Dec 10, 2007 - Ko Lanta

Everyone said to go to Koh Phi Phi...they said it was the most beautiful island and the most fun. But alas, I ended up south of Phi Phi on an island called Koh Lanta. It's not famous for anything and isn't much of a travelers mecca. It's not written up in Lonely Planet as having anything special, except for the fact that's it has managed to remain somewhat untouched over the years. I guess when it comes down to it, this is what I was looking for anyway! Koh Lanta is a pretty big island (by Thailand standards) and is made up of one long...
