Dec 21, 2016 - KT Bungalow 204 Coral Grand Resort

Mega nights kip ... around 10 hours! Feel much better and happier. Lots of rain and frogs in night which was great! Noisy diving instructor over brek again (possibly German). Walked to town in rain with supplied umbrellas which was top banana!. Big bubble blister on back of right ankle / leg. Chilled by the beach then stayed on our verandah.

Dec 20, 2016 - Koh Tah is only for divers... Young ones!

Glum day, not particularly sunny. Got a lot of mozzy (or something) bites on our feet. Tim read the Dengue virus is rife here. Booked and paid for Imperial Riverbank Hotel Kuching 29th Dec to 4th Jan (which I paid for! £166.86 for 6 nights Inc brek) - Happy about that. Tried to book one night in Bako National Park. Tim got me a bulldog clip to help hold my sarong up as a skirt! Surprisingly works very well & doesn't really notice. Loud mouthed foreign diving instructor on beach and got bitten on my bum so sat on our lovely verandah all...

Apr 1, 2016 - April's Fools! A snorkeling trip to KohTao before it's time to go home!

It was a rough two day trip from Inle Lake to Koh Tao. Struggling with my stomach bug, I made the very poor choice to try some lassi (yogurt drink) before getting on the overnight bus from Inle Lake to Yangon. Ugh! I was so gassy and crampy that I spent every pit stop (and then some) squatting over an Asian toilet. Fittingly, there were no thrones to be found on this trip. Sleep was out of the question. Fortunately, the bus company finagled pricey taxi rides to the airport, bypassing the extremely busy, dirty, and sketchy main bus station...

Sep 12, 2014 - Koh Tao 6 - Half Way

I love not having much to do every day. We woke up from our huts and got going at like 1pm. Steffi and Ben were still tired from their diving since the compression screws with your blood gas levels. Still we wanted to get some snorkeling in, it's sacrilege I've been on Koh Tao for a week and haven't been underwater! Ben was still trying to convince me to Moto over to shark bay. Its easy to understand why so many tourists do it. You can rent a Moto for the whole day for 5$. One trip on a scam taxi costs 10$, it's too tempting for people....

Sep 11, 2014 - Koh Tao 5 - Sweet and Sour

Terrible night. The full moon party crowd had landed in Koh Tao from the other island. Bass music and loud people all night. I woke up with small red dots on my legs. I'm outta here. I torched my clothes in the bin, and regardless if they weren't worn in the room I took the rest to hot laundry. So groggy tired again. There's a group at reception and without making a scene I say I'm leaving early. This manager is so damn rude. I lie and say im going to Ko Phi Phi, she says 'that's the worst island in Thailand'. Then she finds a paper i...

Sep 10, 2014 - Koh Tao 4 - The Climb

Wow, what a difference sleep makes when you have a cold. Normally it can take 4 days to recover when travelling, I was back in one day. When I wake up I notice one of the Danish girls sleeping on the couch, and then both friends are packing up. What now? She felt some bugs last night in bed. Ughhhjhjj. My bags come off the floor and I throw out the clothes I'm wearing. The hostels managers seem unconcerned as the girls leave and the hostel say they didn't see any. Well, that gets me moving. It got me motivated for a hike, so up I went in...

Sep 9, 2014 - Koh Tao 3 - Recovery

I meet up with Amir my Ottawa friend at the pier in KPN, jeeze we made it. As we make the most puke-filled boat ride back yet, we realize we still have face paint on. We start walking on the Koh Tao pier and all the 'normal' travellers look at us like we have measles or something, it was priceless. I spent the rest if of my 36 hour day getting a massage, relaxing and preparing for what feels like a cold coming. I get one EVERY time I travel, this one was 3 weeks late. Finally get some solid western pasta at the only sports bar in Thailand...

Sep 7, 2014 - Koh Tao 2 - I Must Be European

Had a really nice sleep in today, the German and Belgian travellers I had such good times with yesterday had packed up for Koh Phangan already. Just like that, people who could be your best friends are off. Oh well. The island was literally my oyster, where do you begin in paradise? The weather wasn't stunning yet, but I didn't want to waste time. I got out my hiking shoes and just started going. The island is way bigger than I thought, but still small enough there's no way to get lost and it's fun for adventure. I trekked right through the...

Sep 6, 2014 - Koh Tao 1 - Stormy

Not sure when the last day ends and this one begins. Hopped on the bus at Kho San and said bye bye to Bangkok..hopefully forever. Between the nauseous swaying of the bus i appreciated the changing urban landscape to a more tropical one as I moved down the Isthmus of Kras over the morning. Finally we got to Chumpon which is more or less a Port Dump and hopped on the fast catamaran to Ko Tao on a not so nice day. If I thought the swaying of the bus was bad...it was nothing compared to the claustrophobic, salty, rocking boat we were on for 2...

Sep 28, 2013 - Koh Tao

Koh Tao is all about scuba diving!! We arrived & found this out. The hotel we stayed at was one of the best so far...fab pool on the sea front with spectacular views!! The room however was the first not to have air con & we knew about it! Just sranding in the room made us sweat..ew yes I know its vile but just imagine sleeping in that heat...fans do nowt...fact! My way of dealing with this was not to moan because were only staying for 3 nights but to spend most of my time outside the room, which i did! The breeze was lush outside anyhow...
