Sep 14, 2014 - Koh Phi Phi 2 - Waterworld

Just couldn't get out of my bed today, it's just too nice. Never want a bunk bed again. It didn't matter because there was serious monsoon rain all morning. When I finally walk down I see the only short way to town is flooded knee deep. This place needs to be fixed. The alternative route is a 15minute detour around a reservoir, where the path is like a Bourne movie, winding around gutters and shanty homes. I pass the time and hope the flooding retreats. There's a huge viewpoint of the island that I go up which was steep, but not like the...

Sep 13, 2014 - Koh Phi Phi 1 - Under Construction

A big travel day ahead but I was rested. Up at 5am like a work day. Took the ferry past KPN and Koh Samui, then to the coast town of Surat Thani where I changed to a bus. It was a long 5 hour ride but I finally managed to catch up with this journal. So hard to keep up when there's always things happening. As I type away, the view around me is classical picture of thailand. Sunny with towering, forest-covered karst, along with palm trees surrounding the road. Most people on the bus were asleep, don't know how you could miss those views. We...

Dec 17, 2013 - Koh Phi Phi

For anyone like me who has never seen Leonardo DiCaprios "The Beach" you may not know about Koh Phi Phi. Especially if like me, you were pretty naive and uninterested in the December 2004 catastrophic tsunami. With both of these things not on my radar, I showed up on Koh Phi Phi expecting a quiet little island. But whoa, between the Hollywood-hungry tourists and the people dedicated to restoring the island this little piece of land has a lot going on!! While we were on the island basking in the sun, I made friends with the sand and the sun...

Sep 29, 2013 - phi phi

Hi all, have been on koh phi phi for 5 days, went on a bpat trip for a whole day, to different islands nearby. One island we had to swim to from our boat, the sea water was vey strong and kept pushing people into rocks so I ended up towing my friend to the boat as she couldnt make it. There were huge rocks underwater which we didnt know until we ended up kicking and cutting our feet. I brusied my amkle badly and had it in a bandage for a few days after, still a little sore now! other than that the rest of the day was good, lots of snorkling...

louise's world trip!

Jan 3, 2013 - Undiscov... no. Now Discovered Koh Phi Phi

After saying our goodbyes to everyone and giving a couple of days to sort out the food poisoning, we headed to Koh Phi Phi. It’s as beautiful as I expected but far busier than I thought. Again the quiet island from the film is now party central and so very crazily developed since the tsunami during the mid-2000’s. But still it’s so incredible. It amazes me how even after seeing so many beautiful places, there is so much more to see. And Phi Phi is just that. Will and I ended up getting to the island late because the taxi driver didn't pick...

Jan 25, 2011 - Koh Phi Phi

Around the World

Jun 10, 2010 - Koh Phi Phi

Apr 20, 2009 - The Night Ferry and the Stormy Sea

THE FERRY RIDE: Sometimes you take certain things that occur in the USA for granted. Take safety standards. Those of us in the Construction Industry sometimes get frustrated with the level of regulation we must endure. But after an 8 hour overnight ferry ride in stormy weather... I will never complain about regulations again. The sleeper ferry is another part of the "roughing it" saga. The ferry is two levels and on each level, there is an 18" wide aisle down the center of the ship. Of course there is no AC, so you open the windows and turn...

David's 2009 Travels

Sep 5, 2008 - Episode 18: The Beach

Whilst somewhat tired of th 'beach life', we were heading for another, the island of Koh Phi Phi. The journey consisted of a 3 hour boat trip to the main land, then a further 5 hour coach trip to Krabbi, an overnight stay here before the final boat to the island the following morning. Krabbi was a quiet town, where we spent the evening watching football in the irish bar. Koh Phi Phi is famed for its reef trips, diving and maya beach, the setting for the film THE BEACH. Previously devisated by the tsunami 4 years ago, the island still shows...

May 28, 2008 - Koh Phi Phi
