Jun 14, 2010 - Ko Pha Ngan

14th June From Ko Tao to Ko Pagnan in one swift ferry trip. Said goodbye to Alice as she's going back to Bangkok for her flight and checked into the guest house the girls stayed at. There's a beach party every night which is a smaller version of the full moon party but with all the gimics, buckets, ifire twirling and party games as the real one. Origionally we were comming for one night before crossing to the other side of Thailand so Em and I could see what the fuss was about but living is small town and easy here so a deal at the...

May 13, 2009 - Ko Pha Ngan

Another island I paid a visit to 11 years ago, the inevitable comparisons over time at Ko Pha Ngan are much worse. This island is famous for its full-moon parties, an idea now copied on many beaches throughout the world but Ko Pha Ngan was the venue for the first and still by far the biggest. First time round I stayed in a bamboo hut on sunrise beach at Had Rin where there were numerous cheap bamboo huts, half a dozen wood built restaurants and a very sleepy post office where I was warned that the service was very slow and unreliable. Now...

Where's Malcolm?

Dec 11, 2008 - Ko Pha Ngan

The sister island of Ko Samui, and the island to go if you want to party! The beaches here aren't as nice or big as Ko Samui, but there are a few stretches of beach that you can get to by renting a scooter. The bungalows I stayed at here was on a quiet beach and about 20 minutes from Haad Rin, where the Full Moon party takes place. I finally got around to feeling better while I was here, which was a good thing or else I would have missed the party! Met a lot of really cool people from the UK that were staying with us.

May 3, 2008 - Ko Pha Ngan

Hello from Ko Pha-Ngan (“Ko Pan Yang”)! Sorry about the sporadic updates. Today you get several entries at once, since finding good internet access which is fast enough to upload pictures is a bit difficult. On Friday, I took an hour boat ride from Ko Samui to Ko Pha-Ngan. Ko Pha-Ngan has a much smaller population than Ko Samui and is less popular with middle-aged tourists. Pretty much the whole traveler population here is under 30... which makes for a lively crowd, although pretty much everyone is here with their significant others, so...

Jan 21, 2008 - Koh Samui & Koh Pha Ngan

We got the ferry from Koh Tao back to Koh Samui. Koh Samui is nice enough but has become too developed for our liking. It is now more like a package holiday destination than a tropical paradise and this is reflected in the exorbitant prices to be found in the restaurants, bars and most noticeably from the street vendors. Really we had wanted to go to straight to the neighbouring island of Koh Pha Ngan for the huge Full Moon Party there but, since they are so busy at this time, all the hotels bump up their prices and require you stay for 5-7...

Dec 28, 2007 - Christmas With Friends in Paradise

It's a little strange sitting on a white sand beach overlooking a turquoise bay, surrounded by swaying palm trees and a plate of curry in hand when someone walks by and says "Merry Christmas!" Christmas! Realizing it was Christmas I thought about the people I miss back home and for a moment wished I were there. Then I realized-nope- I wish YOU were all here. You wouldn't miss the Christmas jingles and eggnog and crowded shopping malls and all that other crap for a moment. Trust me. Sitting in an internet cafe in Vietnam I received an e-mail...

Sep 20, 2007 - THAILAND - Ko Pha-Ngan

Not got too much to write really (that i can put on here anyway!) but am having lovely, girly beach holiday - at last! Met 2 English girls, Lauren & Zena on the way here and am sharing a beach bungalow with them on Haad Rin. We spend our days on the beach when it's not raining or when we're not too hungover, sampling all the restaurants and cafes eating a lot, shopping a lot etc etc and the nights at the numerous beach parties or pool parties - it's been pretty drunken to say the least! But great fun and is so nice just to rest and not have...

Aug 13, 2007 - Sunshine, Beach Dogs, Good Food and Even a Lizard: Relaxing on Ko Pha-Ngan (Matt)

The ferry from Ko Samui lowers its teetering rusty gangway to the pier as the boat tilts back and forth in the rough waves. The wind is blowing. The boat had been tilting on the large rollers during the trip from Ko Samui, sending luggage that was stacked in the middle of the deck into disarray. Now we are moored to the rickety pier. Laura and I strap our bags to our backs and try to think light thoughts as we scurry over the gangway and the frothy waves below. We've arrived. Before us is the town of Haad Rin. Haad Rin is famous for the...

Jul 3, 2005 - Dag 5
