May 20, 2017 - Ko Lanta

We have spent the last four nights relaxing on the beach. Our accommodation could be compared to glamping. We have a hut on stilts and the bathroom is a room opposite. Unfortunately the walls and ceiling do not quite meet. The hotel is on the beach, which is beautiful and stretches for miles. We even feel lucky with the amount of restaurants to choose from compared to Railay beach. The weather here can change so quickly, yesterday we watched one cloud out at sea raining. That clouded headed straight for us bringing a 15 minute down poor,...

Dec 2, 2012 - Ko Lanta - AkA Paradise

So me and my crutches have the worst relationship, worse than my rucksack I hate them. They hurt my hands and the islands are just not made for people with poorly legs; uneven roads and sand! All feeling terrible Sarah, Hollie, Soheila and I went to Ko Lanta, an island that is on the south-west coast of Thailand, just north of Malaysia. Well if ever you needed paradise to recuperate this is the place – amazing!! We got a mini-bus from the god dam awful place of Krabi and had to go on 2 ferries when I say a ferry though I mean just a...

Jan 17, 2012 - Thailand - Days 4 - 7 - 4 nights on Koh Lanta

Our transfer from Koh Lipe to Koh Lanta was to consist of a speedboat ride, transferring to a mini-bus and straight on to Koh Lanta, where the mini bus would boat the ferry, dropping us off on the island. Instead, it ended up consisting of the speed boat from Koh Lipe (not much scenery, water was a bit rough), transfer to a mini-bus, then another transfer to a different mini-bus in the town of Trang, then a transfer to a speed boat (absolutely beautiful scenery and calm waters), and a final transfer to a pickup truck with seats in the back,...

Apr 21, 2011 - Ko lanta paradise

We left Krabi this morning and travelled for 3 hours by road, taking two ferries before arriving at Ko Lanta. Our journey was a little odd as our driver kept stopping every five minutes and we all had to clamber out. This was o.k. as we were in a mini bus crammed with people and rucksacks and leaving even briefly was a relief. First he stopped for coffee (for him). Then we all had to clamber out for an admin check, exchanging our ticket for a sticky label. Then when we had just got settled into the bus we stop for petrol at a 7/11 shop....

May 17, 2010 - no speaking day

hey. not much to say today. i'm still in phra ae, not really doing much, just sitting here collecting my thoughts and each day realising new things. i noticed that i was really really talkative this morning so challenged myself not to say a word to either myself or anyone else out loud for 6 hours (dunno why 6, just seemed a good target). ended up staying schtum for about 8 hours and just used the time to do lots of writing, went walking in the rain, did more writing, more rain, more writing. think u get the general picture. sounds really...

We'd meant to have a meal and then go to a bar or club but ended up having a great meal then went and bought some drinks at 7eleven (them beer, me fanta grape flavour) and made our own little bar out of 2 benches on the beach. really really lovely evening, although tinged with sadness for me as aline was going home the following day and i was heading to ko lanta....

Apr 2, 2010 - Putting new skills to use

DOCTOR SAYS LYDIA IS OK TO GO The trouble with taking Pulmicort for 9 years, but never being tested and never having any emergency breathing situations, is that one doesn't know how to check off the boxes on the pre-scuba medical form. So the nice dive shop sends me to a doctor to discuss it all. She was very thorough in listening to my history and then in listening to my chest and looking in my ears. She gave me the ok as long as I found it easy to regulate my ear pressure. Not yet sure if I'm glad she didn't say "no". FIRST DIVE Clause is...

..........wenn man lange nichts von mir hoert, ist es immer ein sicheres Zeichen dafuer, dass es mir gut geht..............! Endlich auf Ko Lanta(Klong Nin Beach) angekommen. Back to Paradise...
