We headed west out of Bangkok to Kanchanaburi Province, a green region noted for the film " The Bridge Over on River Kwai". The lush farms and development belies the harsh history where the Japanese forced 6 1,000 POW's along with 200,000 Asians in 1942, to build 260 miles of railroad often called the Death Railway. For every 1/2 mile of track laid, 38 POW's perished. There was some disappointment. We thought we would see jungle but we saw development.
