Feb 11, 2012 - Day Hike in Doi Inthanon National Park with village tribe young men guides

Took a long day trip (2 hours there and two hours back 8am-6pm). Tell the story by photos. Not as many (at all) birds and animals as our previous park experience earlier near Khorat, but interesting (the guides were very charming - three Karen brothers!). When we told them we had a daughter who was 22 yrs old, our main guide wanted her phone number!

Jul 25, 2009 - Trekking in Doi Inthanon

I hope you all enjoy the pictures I've added. I've taken a decent amount, although certainly much less than my travel buddies, and tried to select the best ones to place in here. Anyone interested in seeing more photos, let me know and I will send you link to the google page where I am uploading all my photos... So, recently Dan Haber, a college friend who was traveling/volunteering in India met up with Pat and I. We got onto a trekking trip around Doi Inthanon National Park. Our first day involved elephant riding and much hiking and...

Mar 28, 2009 - Doi Inthanon.

28 March On this day I make a day tour to Doi Inthanon National Park. Doi Inthanon is the highest mountain in Thailand, 2565 meters over sea level. The trip started in early morning and in Chiang Mai the temperature was about 27-28 degrees. When we reached the top of Doi Inthanon the temperature was around 16-17 degrees. In my mind this was a normal Swedish summer temperature. The tour also included visits to two water falls, a visit to Phra Mahathat Naphamethanidon, king’s and queen’s chedi, a chedi built by the Royal Thai Air Force to...

Dec 14, 2006 - On to Pai

Slow start....travelschool and argumentative family (read mother and father here)lead us to leave Melee's guest house rather grumpily at about 1:00pm. The Destination was Pai and the road was really windy with hairpin bends leading us up and across the mountains. Pai was a cool, hippy place with a funny atmosphere. We explored and had supper on the streets. The place was packed with tourists but fun.

Mar 22, 2006 - Some forgettable tourist traps and Doi Suthep

Today's adventrue started with a trip to an butterfly/orchid farm (ok, ok that's not really adventurous). From there we went to to an elephant camp to see a show and go on an elephant ride. The highlight of our day was the monkey show. All tourists traps and all well worth missing. Fortunately we had a private car and were able to rush through the shows as quickly as possible. At the end of the tour we still had some time left with the car and decided to visit a temple called Doi Suthep. According to our driver, no Thai would consider a...

Dec 6, 2005 - Karen hill-tribe

I was up bright and early this morning to get packed for my trip and have some breakfast before our 9am departure. The weather was not particularly cooperative as the sky was grey and cloudy and it looked like it might start raining at any second. Montri had warned us the night before that there had been rain in the mountains, and as a result 4 people dropped out of the group, but the remaining 8 of us (6 Germans, an English girl, and myself) piled onto the benches in the back of the truck ready for an adventure! We weren't even out of town...
