May 15, 2016 - Long trip

We had no trouble disembarking and did not have to go through immigration as we were doing a transfer. However, the security check was a real bear. Only about ten people were in front of us but each one was searched thoroughly. Then not only went through the bags but also patted us down, felt around the waist and down the legs, then pulled out my wallet to look through for dangerous items (it seems mostly lighters and matches). That made us a little late for our flight so we hurried along to discover that, although it was to board at 7:05...

Feb 15, 2011 - Happy Times in Hong Kong/Macau

It's not every day that you can make someone's dream come true. But, on our recent trip to Hong Kong and Macau, we had this chance and gave my aunt a trip of a lifetime! My aunt is one of those amazing people who always takes care of the people around her but never has a chance to take care of herself. My mom and I decided to change that and for the first time in her life, my aunt had the opportunity to travel outside of the Philippines! Everything from the flight to checking into the hotel to exploring a different place was an experience...

Feb 13, 2011 - Bangkok, Thailand - Part II

Elephants, Crocodiles and Tigers, OH MY! This was the theme of our last day in Bangkok. We started our day waking up bright and early for a half day tour of Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. The Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is a very popular tourist spot and is a great way to see the Thai traditional way of selling and buying fruits and vegetables from a small boat. I opted to pay for a ride in a canoe to get the true experience instead of just walking around the market and it was definitely worth it! Our guide paddled along these busy...

Feb 12, 2009 - Bangkok

12 February I am back in Bangkok again. The entire trip from Koh Samui to Bangkok took 4 hours. I upload some pictures from Koh Samui airport, which I think is one of the most beautiful airport I ever seen. It is very much an open-air airport with an extremely well kept garden. Back in Bangkok I send almost all clothes that I have to laundry service. I spend some hours in front of my computer. My computer have more or less been screaming after updates since it been off line almost two weeks. 13 February A very hot day, maybe the hottest...

Jan 7, 2009 - Bangkok, Pattaya and Koh Chang...onto Singapore

Wow, once again I am waaaaaaaaaaay behind on keeping my journal...guess that indicates I'm enjoying things and finding it difficult to make the time to do it! I miss HK and my buddies there but Thailand is really an amazing country that I should have visited years ago... Bangkok is very full of sights, sounds and smells (not all good) but over all a fun city and fabulous people. Next day went out and saw the city... The Grand Palace was so beautiful and the monks walking around, which no woman can touch were regal and in a...

Jan 5, 2009 - 2009! HK New Year and Moving On To Thailand!

Hong Kong is one of the most amazing cities I have ever visited. My friends Tomoki and Jess made my trip here a complete success! Thanks you two for a wonderful visit filled with lots of laughter, many sites and huge amounts of great food! Thanks so much for your hospitality and letting me stay with you! We visited so many places I am a bit confused on everything but got a good feel for the city so when I visit next I won't be a complete newbie! What most captured me were the immense buildings everywhere you look no matter what part of town...

Nov 25, 2008 - pink taxis and blazing-hot food (or mistakes parents make)

Finally, we’re here! After a grueling 12-hour flight to Hong Kong we raced through immigration, customs, luggage pickup, check-in, emigration, security in record time (one hour!) and just barely made our plane. Then Bangkok where we scored a hot-pink taxi to the hotel (other choices include orange and yellow-and-green). After a preliminary excursion on 2 hours sleep we trried to return home only to get stuck in a terrible traffic jam which became positively epic when only several blocks away from home we were forced onto a highway going the...

Dec 13, 2007 - Land of Smiles my @$$

So this is going to be a very short post since nothing to terribly interesting has happened since we last talked... OWW Except for Shawana badly spraining her left ankle. No this is not a joke, she was comming down from breakfast and landed on her ankle off the stairs wrong and down she went. Did anyone help?? Did the service staff that saw it happen come to help?? Did any of the Europeans that came down the stairs afterwards and saw her crying help?? OF COURSE NOT!!!! Why would they do a silly thing like that. They just walked by and then...

Our Honeymoon!!!

Nov 11, 2007 - The Eagle has landed.....

So after 16 hours on a plane, various hours more in an airport, a slighty scary taxi ride to the hotel that couldn't find us in their computers (but somehow found us in somedata base) we're here! It seems like and i think we did lose a day or three somewhere but we're adjusting. It's Sunday at about 11:15am and we're crusing the local shopping complex (which is really more like a crazy compound) and just taking it all in. The weather is sunny and about 85 degrees. It's really beautiful out. (side note for the mom's - we tried calling but...

Our Honeymoon!!!

Sep 25, 2007 - Bangkok

A hot and sultry day in Krung Thep, the City of Angels. The day began with the usual mad rush to work, fighting the traffic and waiting patiently at traffic lights. Watch out for the motorbikes, affectionately known as 'mots' or ants, coming from both sides of the car. Its useless using your indicators when making turns, its only there for show. I was hit by a 'mot' the other day. The mad max hit me as I was trying to turn left. He didn't see my indicators and overtook another mot who was waiting for me to turn.

Aug 22, 2007 - Shopping in Bangkok

3rd Day in Bangkok - and only now posting the weekend's report - so will most probably be a few days until I tell you more about Bangkok. Not that there will be that much to tell - other than I am spending money!! My sister Henriette has kindly allowed me to buy some stock for her shop - tell you it is nerve wrecking stuff - I just hope the customers like what I am buying!! I must admit that my personal jewelry box has also benefitted slightly from this - at 60% of the trade prices it is hard not to (and it is all nice and small - does not...
