Mar 14, 2017 - Ayuthaya

We had breakfast at 6am, and then met our guide at 6.30am for transport to the station, where we boarded our train north to Bang Pa-In, where we were visiting the Summer Palace. Our transport from the station was a Songthaew, which is adopted from a pick-up that has two rows of seats. Unfortunately, your mum smacked her head getting in, and we need plasters etc. to patch her up again! We visited the Summer Palace, which was awesome, the got a Tuk-Tuk to a local restaurant for lunch - very nice. We then got the Tuk-Tuk to the river, where we...

Mar 5, 2017 - A trip in memory....

I arrived in Bangkok just behind schedule – after another fun immigration experience at Don Mueang airport, a huge taxi queue and rush hour traffic I finally arrived at Amanda’s at just after 7pm. It really is so nice having a base in a city like Bangkok as it’s such a busy, noisy and crazy city a bit of calm goes a long way! Not only is it calm but she’s quite similar to me in that she enjoys going out for dinner / drinks but also appreciates a good evening in and some home cooked food. Following my request for the latter the night before...

Feb 2, 2015 - Dag 1-6

Jan 16, 2014 - The train journey I won't forget

It started off as a normal day. The owner of the guest house i was staying at dropped me off at the traon where I bought a ticket with no hassles for 57bhat . Now i think i took it quite well when i head on my ticket that the train journey would be 11:26 - 17:50!! I thought it would take 2hours max. Wrong. The train was late by 30minutes (this seems to be the norm) its no problem, why do i need tp rush?! Good time to catch up on my book, watch the world go by and also my faverotething, people watch. What i didn't plan for was for me to be...

Nov 26, 2012 - Ayuthaya Day 2 - Lazy day

Had a very lazy day today and kinda did a lot of compulsory spending... Bought a night bus tickets to Chiang Mai at a travel agency (I wanted to save the hassle of going to the bus station just to buy the ticket.) Spent the morning with lazy brunch and journal writing. Then headed to Ayuthaya Floating Market. This "Market" seem to be a destination not only for foreign tourist, but also for Thais. There are many Thai families all around the water deck market shopping and eating. There's also a small petting zoo for the kids, game stations...

Nov 25, 2012 - Ayuthaya day 1

Took a shared mini-van from Bangkok to Ayuthaya and arrived around 10am. Found a room and rented a bike. I don't know why/how I think I can ride around one gear bike in foreign country when I don't even do that in American parks. More interestingly, I don't know how I end up managing riding around town. Anywho, it was a very hot day and I am glad I rented a bike. After all, other people can just go around me :-) Pictures are worth thousand words for this Ayuthaya historical park journal entry. From what I gather, Ayuthaya used to be a...

Jan 7, 2011 - Thailand Explorer: Bangkok and Ayuthaya!

And so to Thailand. Flew to Bangkok on January 7th and arrived in the very busy Khoa San Road to meet my travelling companion for this leg of my Thailand Explorer trip. (Hi Debbie! hope home is not too cold!?) This journey was two weeks of travel through parts of Thailand and then two weeks vounteering in Surin, Central Thailand, teaching English.First though, the touring holiday. Bangkok: The hotel on Khoa San Road had pristine white sheets...such a stark contrast from Nepal...took my breath away! Great to meet my travelling companion and...

Sue's Big Trip

Dec 16, 2010 - Ayuthaya - Kanchanaburi

Today we left our lovely hotel resort in Sukhothai. We had nice relaxing swim in the pool when we got here yesterday afternoon with a nice cold G&T! An hour outside Sukhothai we stopped at Wat Srisanphet, “one of the most beautiful temples in Thailand” It was quite lovely with lots of people making special offerings including pigs heads. We carried on south to Ayutthaya, the second royal city once upon a time after Sukhothai. Ayutthaya was laid waste by the Burmese in the 18th Century. The city was burned, Buddha’s statues were destroyed...

Southeast Asia 2010

Jul 15, 2010 - Ayutthaya

May 29, 2010 - Ayuthaya and Kanchanaburi
