Aug 30, 2019 - Prelude

A non eventful flight to Geneva from via Abu Dhabi and Zurich, except they had no record of my request ( made months in advance, confirmed by the airline AND showing in their app on my phone ) for gluten free food. Response from the airline (Etihad) wasn’t fabulous but they did fine some food for me so I didn’t starve. Our luggage didn’t arrive but it was all found and delivered to the house later that afternoon. Perfect! Tom didn’t have to worry about lugging his boxes bike on the train and I didn’t have to worry about our 2 cases. 𯘄 A...

Aug 20, 2018 - A few days in Lully

Sunday was a lie in for me. Then bike stuff. Reviewing my gear here and the bike things I purchased recently and had delivered to Switzerland. All look good. New gloves, travelling foot pump, Ergon handlebar grips , spare gear shift changers and spare derailleur hanger. I installed the new grips, pumped up my tyres and in the afternoon went for a ride around the neighbourhood. Managed to check out the last bit of the route that we will take when we return here in a couple of weeks. Very handy! With Beni on Terry’s eBike it was fun keeping...

Aug 18, 2018 - My first day back in Switzerland- yay!

What a wonderful first day back in Switzerland. Sandra collected me from the airport. A lovely last minute surprise that I learnt about from my seat in the plane inHeathrow just before take off. Her walk in the mountains had been postponed until tomorrow. Yay! Dropped my things off at Terry and Beni’s lovely house (with new awning but I hadn’t noticed the front door also matches!!!). Beni is playing in a golf tournament and Terry is away on a 5 day hike in the Alps with ‘the kids’ Sarah and Matt. No need for a shower, as I’d had one at...

Oct 15, 2017 - Last few days in Switzerland

15 - 17 Oct 2017 Sun Lovely sleep in! Cleaning of my panniers Discussions with Terry on potential multi day hikes for next year, GR5??, cross Switzerland by the Via Alpina?? Late afternoon walk in the Jura above L'Isle, to try and find some Erratic rocks (glacial deposits). The autumn colours are magnificent at the moment Mon Headed into Morges in Beni's car to see if the shoemaker/repair man could fix my handlebars bag which is fraying a little. Just like the guy in Cavaillon, he recommended to lightly singe it... which he promptly did...

Oct 14, 2017 - End of bike trip. Return to Switzerland

An early start today then off to the train station. Train to Avignon and then next train to Lyon. Whilst waiting for our respective trains we ate the last of the picnic food and then had a farewell ice-cream! I caught my train to Geneva and David returned his hire bike then caught the Eurostar to London. My goal was to get to Geneva in time to see Sarah ice-skating in a national competition. I fortunately timing didn't quite work out. She skated earlier than expected. 𯘫 But I was able to see my dear friend Celine Caught on the train to...

Sep 27, 2017 - Relaxing days in Switzerland

I had 2 lovely relaxing days in Switzerland, between adventures. First day I washed and cleaned and froze my things to kill any bed bugs / bed bug eggs that may have gotten into my bags after we were bitten in a Gîte during the walk, many days earlier. Although we had no further bites or any evidence of bed bugs, on arrival in Switzerland I immediately quarantined ALL things in the garage (as Sandra and Terry had done when they arrived) and changed into clothes from the bag I had left there before the walk. Luckily Terry has a big deep...

Sep 27, 2016 - A few days in Santiago de Compostela

Sun 25 - Tue 27 Sept Sun After a big sleep in we went to the 12 noon pilgrims' mass at the cathedral. We are not religious but I'd remembered it was a nice way to finish the Camino and I was keen to see the magnificent botefumerio swing again. We got to the cathedral a little before 11 and the queue to get in was huge. But once things got moving we were fine and actually had seats (pews I guess!). We waited an hour for the mass to start and it took just over an hour. There were many people standing. I was delighted when the famous...

Jun 26, 2016 - A brief return to Switzerland

Trains trains trains Left the hotel early today ready for long day of train travel with my bike. Said farewell to Leanne and I rode to the Koblenz station and waited in a long queue to find out my train status after yesterday's derailment. I was delighted to find it was running and only 5 mins late Being there early I had time on the platform to clean my bike with baby wipes. Managed to keep other waiting passengers amused with my antics. My bike had a reservation but it wasn't clear what carriage it was to be in. Eventually found the...
