Armed with our trusty walking map, we’ve done a few more walks and managed not to get lost! One was from a small village called Biniaraix, not far from Soller, climbing up the side of a very steep-sided valley alongside a river bed – dry at the moment, but it must be quite a sight when in full spate. Part way up there was a water tap, fed by springs, and an old metal cup on a chain which we used to pour water over our heads to cool off – very necessary as it is extremely hot, despite a lot of the path being in shade from pines and olive...Jump to full entry
May 31, 2012 - Puerto de Soller & visit to Palma
We are still in Puerto de Soller. Apart from one boat anchored nearby that runs a very noisy generator every day for about an hour, it is a lovely peaceful spot, safe anchorage and we can go and fill up with water on the fishing boat quay - when they are not there, obviously - without having to pay through the nose to berth in the marina. We did another walk, this time inland to a very pretty village called Fornalutx in the foothills of the Tramuntana mountain range, which is itself a great starting point for a lot of walks. May 26, 2012 - Port Andratx to Port Soller
We set off about 9.30am and had a lovely sail between Isla Dragonera and San Telmo on the main island but that was the most wind we had all day, probably from the funnelling effect of the hills on either side. We were travelling so slowly at one point that Francis jumped off and swam alongside the boat for a short time. He had to swim quite hard to keep up and luckily the wind didn’t pick up while he was in the water! The highlight of the day was seeing a swordfish, over a metre long, jumping high out of the water several times just ahead...Jump to full entry
