Jun 21, 2019 - Last days of this trip

On our second to last day (how time flew!) on Tenerife we took a free bus tour to the Canarias Bedding factory. Hnnnh??? We did this so as to be able to tour into areas we had not yet seen! At the Bedding place we were seated in a very civilized fashion at little round table and given tea and a muffin followed by a demonstration of their bedding line made with 100% merino wool. After the bedding stop we were then taken further up to a small town called Granadilla de Abona where we had 45 minutes to wander around or go for the local...

Jun 20, 2019 - La Gomera, Canary Islands

We took an excellent day trip, all seven of us, to the nearby Island of La Gomera which can be seen off in the distance from our hillside perch. (Bali Hai?) Bruce and I agree this trip was a highlight. Fortunately, none of the others had been to La Gomera yet, in spite of having come to Tenerife several times so it was something new for them to do, too. A bus picked us up outside our hotel bright and early and took us to a Fred Olsen high speed catamaran ferry down at the waterfront in town. Our destination was San Sebastiàn, the capital...

Jun 18, 2019 - Tenerife, Canary Islands

What a slick trip from Birmingham to Gatwick Airport! A five-minute walk from our hotel, the Ibis Birmingham New Street, to Birmingham New Street Station, time to pop into the M & S Food Hall at the Station and buy really nice sandwiches (mine was prawn with a marie-rose sauce), then onto our train to Reading where we changed for the Gatwick Airport Train which took us straight into the airport, up an elevator and there we were at the check-in desk. We flew by Thomas Cook Airlines (a roughly four-hour trip) to Tenerife in the Canary Islands...

Jul 22, 2018 - Up date for Sunday 15th

Dear all, Well today we missed two family birthdays. Our son Ashley and granddaughter Amelia celebrated their birthdays. We went out to a special dinner on the ship just so we didn't miss out as well. We went to the markets at Teguise today. I have never seen so many stalls, all covered in white tents because of the heat. When we entered there didn't seem to be too many there but as we walked in the whole area just opened up. We were there early and as the morning moved on the number of the stalls increased. They were selling jewellery,...

Our Big Trip

Jul 22, 2018 - Update for Saturday 14th July

Dear all, It is Sunday morning here in London. Well we are on the move again. We have completed our cruise and spent 24 hours with Sue and Philip and now we are waiting at Heathrow airport for journey flight to Bucharest where we arrive tonight at 17.45. I just wanted to complete our cruise and map. We were supposed to do a submarine trip in Las Palmas but the weather at the dive site was too rough so just did a Hop on Hop off bus ride. All these islands are the same Scenary. They were all volcanoes so are high mountains, a few valleys and...

Our Big Trip

Jul 17, 2018 - Up date for Friday 13th

Dear all, Well moving on. Friday saw us in Tenerife visiting two lovely gardens. Some plants and flowers are very similar to ours but thought the bromeliads are really large and some of the flowers on them quite large. Have included one picture. It is a little windy and cooler on the ship. We are having a lovely time getting lots of rest ready for the trips ahead. Kind regards Dianne and Paul

Our Big Trip

Apr 17, 2018 - Crossing the Caribbean to the Canary Islands

Unbelievable how quickly six sea days passed, busy with eating, yoga, dancing salsa and mambo, drinking molecular cocktails, and daily Italian lessons! How fantastic that Costa provided these, as well as interesting talks on our upcoming destinations. We touched down in the Canary islands, a string of Spanish volcanic islands off the southern coast of Morocco. Initially inhabited by the nomadic Bebers, the Gaunche inhabitants lived basically as if in the stone age, with simple tools, little written language, and cave dwellings. That all...

Jan 19, 2018 - Sun seeking in the Canaries!

Good flight yesterday from Gatwick to Madrid and great overnight at the Ibis Airport Hotel. Flight today from Madrid to Lanzarote which was on time and reasonably comfortable. Arrived at the Blue Bay Hotel and shown to our comfortable apartment which is very spacious and comfortable with large balcony and distant sea views! Walked along the seafront and remembered our previous visit in November 2013. The weather is warm with sunny intervals but the wind a bit chilly!

Nov 3, 2016 - Past Gibraltar to the Canaries

Our first night at sea, as much as the gentle rocking of the ship was soothing, Mike woke up every couple of hours to look out the balcony and see where we were and how the waves were doing. The stars were so bright and clear. One of the first tasks you learn as an experienced cruiser is to book all your dinner reservations and shows early on… wow, that took a while – let’s just say their technology on board needs some work. They have touch screens scattered through the ship from which you could plan your meals and entertainment, but many...

Mar 31, 2015 - Canary Islands

We arrived in Tenerife this morning and took a taxi tour of the island. The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife boasts a rich variety of scenery and attractions, from lively resorts and volcanic beaches in the south to the lush interior of the Orotava Valley and the stunning lunar landscapes of El Teide National Park, dominated by 12,000 foot snowcapped Mount Teide, Spain's highest mountain. The historic capital, Santa Cruz, is in the north. Our taxi driver was very informative. He only spoke a little bit of English, but he had a great...

Mar 29, 2015 - At Sea Talent Show

Great news! Jerry won first place in the talent show. He sang "The Wonder of You" by Elvis. He did a great job. They are sending the video to Costa to be viewed for a possible singing contract on Costa Cruises. It would be fun to win and go on free cruises. :-) He sang in the huge theatre too, he usually sings in the smaller lounges, but this one was held in a huge theatre that seats over 1,000. I am adding pictures from the rehearsal showing more of the theatre as well as the actual show. I took mostly videos and will have to add them...

Nov 21, 2014 - Las Palmas

Fri. 21 Nov. 2014 Weather:-20 degrees/Sunny with a couple of sprinkles Las Palmas De Canaries 7:00 16:00 9h Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, commonly known as Las Palmas it is the largest city in the Canary Islands. Our guide today told us that this is one of the most important ports of Spain. We are not doing a ships tour today as we are sharing a taxi to see the sights with Jeanette and Dave, Dave being the major negotiator--we managed go to view all the sights without being rushed--for half of the price of the official tours and to top it...
