Mar 26, 2005 - Bar Nights

Same old, same old in Gumi. Nothing much to report. (Except that Oscar's coming to visit me in 20 days! I'm so excited!!! He's going to stay for a little less than a month and we're going to be doing a lot of traveling. So, I should definitely get some good pics then.) We FINALLY got a new bar in Gumi. It's a hip-hop club called Bibho and I've been going there quite a bit with the other teachers. It's not a Western Bar so there are mostly Koreans, but they absolutely love it when we go there. There was a beach party awhile back at Psycho...

Jan 10, 2005 - My Fantabulous Apartment, bugs and INDY!!!

My parents keep requesting pics of my apartment. So, here it is the grand tour ... fabulous, isn't it?? I have a two-bedroom apartment on the first floor with two walkout patios, one in the front and one in the back. Although the one in the back is crap and just for my laundry. My bathroom is quite interesting. I don't exactly have a shower, just a hose in the middle of a tile room. But, my toilet IS one step up from a squatter ... that much I'm thankful for. My kitchen is small and icky. That's where my roaches live. I've discovered that...

Nov 1, 2004 - Fukuoka Pictures

Finally! Now I've got my camera working! Yeah ... I told you I could learn Japanese. Anyway, here are some pictures of Fukuoka. Mostly of some of the people I hung out with there. The first night, I met Blake, Kraig and Amanda. Blake and Kraig are in the Navy and Blake is the fabulous Salsa dancer. The second night I hung out with Miguel and Javi and their thug friends. I mean, seriously, these guys look scary as hell, but they were such sweethearts and so much fun. And ... of course, they could dance! There are also some pics of Pusan,...

Oct 13, 2004 - My Rambling

Yup, it's official ... I'm turning into a Korean. I'm desperately trying to fight against it, but unfortunately it's inevitable. And I've only been here for two months! By the time I come home next year, I'm sure by hair will be straight black, my skin will be white, I'll pee outside on a regular basis, my clothes will be hideous, I'll eat dog meat and my name will be changed to Ms. Kim. Oh well, what can you do? But, truly, I am starting to do strange things that reflect upon my time in this culture. For example, instead of agreeing with...

Aug 15, 2004 - 안녕 하세요!

So, my first week in Gumi has been great! (Sorry to disappoint all of you who thought I was being sold into White Slavery . . . It would have made for an excellent story.) I am enjoying this experience so much. I can't tell you how happy I am that I decided to embark on this journey. It has been such a learning experience and I'm sure I will continue to learn more and more every day. My first week of work was exciting. My students are all wonderful and so excited to learn about me and my country. Most of the teachers here are from Canada,...
