Aug 14, 2014 - Jeju, South Korea

Pete emailed from Jeju with information about the parties on the ship and everything is fine. He has not heard anything about his continuing contract yet but there is still plenty of time, especially since he would like to take a couple months off before he goes somewhere else. He still has several weeks left in the South Korea ports before a few weeks of Japan ports and then home at the end of September. As of today, Pete has traveled 56,475 miles since he left Indianapolis 23 weeks ago.

Pete had an interesting visit in Jeju this week. He went with some of his friends to the Manjanggul Lava Tube, a cave-like lava formation that is 200,000 - 300,000 years old! We have posted several interesting photos from his trip. Also, he did a little shopping to get himself a new watch, since his old one broke. Everything is going just fine. The ship itinerary has been changed for tomorrow - they will be heading to Fukuoka, Japan, rathere than to Busan, South Korea. Jul 8, 2014 - Jeju, South Korea

Peter called from Jeju and things were going well. He let us know that the ship itinerary was being changed slightly because of a typhoon in Japan. The only alteration to their schedule at this point was to leave Jeju an hour earlier than planned but, as the tropical storm season gets into full swing, we will be keeping track of the storms on the other side of the world, as well as the ones that affect the United States. The ships carry very sophisticated weather equipment and they do not venture into the areas of tropical storms so they...

Peter and his friends, Hannah and Holbrook, visited the Love Land Park in Jeju. Love Land is an outdoor sculpture park with a theme based on human sexuality. The park opened in 2004 and has become a popular honeymoon destination. Pete and his friends thought the whole thing was pretty funny, especially watching the Asian visitors, who seemed to be taking the whole thing very seriously. Visitors must be 18 years old but there is a playground facility so kids can wait while their parents are entertained! We have attached just a couple fun...

Pete was in port in Jeju today. He left the ship for lunch with Holbrook, Ryan, Roman, and Hannah from the band, as well as Tiffany and Shelly, the female production singers. He also had time for a pretty good workout in the gym, which he said included riding the stationary bike, walking on the treadmill, and lifting weights. He said he has lost some weight and will have to buy a new belt because he is buckling it in the last hole now! This cruise is not a charter but the band is still not playing a full schedule because they are making...

Pete's most recent visit to Jeju was fine. When he called, he wasn't sure whether he was going to leave the ship but, judging from the pictures he posted, he did have an ice cream adventure with several of his friends somewhere! One evening recently, he and his friends ate dinner at Johnny Rockets on the ship and then enjoyed a Mel Brooks movie marathon! He is in a series of cruises now that make a loop from Baoshan to the South Korean islands and back so he will be visiting the same places regularly for the next couple of weeks. As of...

May 26, 2014 - Asia's vacationland

Korea’s history is at least 5,000 years old. During that time they have been invaded over 200 times, mostly by the Japanese. They say proudly, “But we have never invaded anyone else.” Then under their breaths they mutter, “Perhaps it is because we were too weak.” They aren’t weak anymore. This Asian powerhouse manufactures many of the electronic goods and cars we can’t live without. We were in grade school during the last Korean War, which devastated the entire peninsula and in many ways has not ended yet. But today nearly all of the people...
