This was perhaps the first time it felt like Africa. Port St. John's is in a region known as the Transkei a former African "Homeland" designated under Apartheid. These were roughly equivalent to Indian reservations, but imagine if 80% of our population was Native American. This was the essence of Apartheid - separate development for whites and then the various tribal groups throughout the coutry to divide the non-whites as much as possible. What can I say about our stay at Bulungula? It was certainly an adventure... It started off when the Bulungula Lodge people told us the journey times that we should expect when we called to book. We decided to listen to their advice and leave ourselves lots of time, but it all seemed a bit ridiculous... I mean, 2 hours to the pick-up spot from Mthatha? It only looked about 50km or so. May 14, 2006 - S. Africa - The Wild Coast and Garden Route

Luna's Log: Once again, the photos speak for themselves. Despite the freezing cold of the oncoming winter, we found the South African coast to be simply stunning. It was almost eerie to see so much coastline that looked just like that of California! Made sense once we realized it's nearly equidistant latidunally from the equator. We went on some fantastic hikes despite heaps of rain and dared for some mild adventure, ziplining from tree-to-tree. May 28, 2005 - Out of europe into Coffee

I finally feel like I am in Africa. Dont get me wrong, Laura and I loved our time cruising through the garden route, sunshine coast, and wild coast. But lets get to Africa shall we?? Well Coffee Bay at least.. The drive up the coast and through the mountain ranges is the most delightful at this time of day, sunset. It is undoubtedly my favourite time of day.
