Nov 30, 2006 - Happy Birthday Nick!

Back to Plettenberg for Gatesy's 40th Birthday! (It was backtracking I know, but working with the elderly is always so rewarding!) The Gates' are wrapping up their 3 month adventure here, and I have been SO lucky to have a "home away from home" - and I don't mean the place - to connect with while traveling here. Bill and Judith, I can't thank you both enough. Bill and Judith will make the long flight back to England and then after a week there, bakc to Florida, and Roni and Nick will set out on their epic journey through Africa for a year....

Oct 27, 2006 - Jax Birthday! and the Garden Route.

We drove to Keurboomstrand where we spent one night. We woke up on Jax birthday to the most amazing location. A house right on the beach overlooking the ocean, with (literally) humdreds of dolphins surfing in the waves. It was such a magical sight and I had certainly never seen anything like it. We strolled along the beach and had brekie watching the dolphins go by...what more could you ask for! Then we set off to Natures Valley where we spent several days. The scenery here was magnificent with so much green (I felt right at home!). We went...

Oct 25, 2006 - A Familiar Face

Umbro jacket, puma trainers, noble forehead, and a bug grin as always ... there was Gatesy outside the baggage terminal at George international airport waiting to meet me. It had worked out well that he'd had some errands to take care of in George that day and a rental car of his own to drop off. We collected my bags and "the blender" - my rental car, and were on our way back to Plettenberg Bay where his family is about 2 months into a 3-month vacation rental. Plettenberg View I'm so very lucky to have landed here after the 24 + hours of...

May 13, 2006 - Plettenberg Bay (& Bungy!)

The next stop was Plettenberg Bay which was described in the guide books and by the people I met as being in a fantastic location and near to the biggest commerical bungy jump in the world, so it definitely seemed worth checking out. On the backpacker bus on the way down I got chatting to an Irish couple called Peter & Caroline and to a Scottish girl called Helen and it turned that we are all staying in Plettenberg Bay and in the same hostel! We all got put in the same dorm as we all arrived together and so we ended up hanging out together...

May 16, 2005 - Cow Girls and Southern Comfort

We are now making our way up the coast of South africa, We stopped two nights to relax in a sleepy town called Mossel Bay. A little too sleepy for us. So we made our way to Kynsa.. Even more sleepy but they have horsies.... We arrived at an incredibly rustic lodge, Southern Comfort, with a old Africaans couple greeting us. Marguerite, and Glenn who has his parrot with him at all times, made sure we settled in nicely. We had dinner, family style, with them and learnt some Africaans, talked about history of South Africa and the local black...
