Sep 21, 2019 - Day 39. Saturday. 21/9/2019. Singapore to Brisbane
Day 39. Saturday. 21/9/2019. Singapore to Brisbane We left the hotel at 11.30am and came to the airport by ‘Grab’, the local version of Uber. It’s cheaper than a shuttle bus shared with possibly 30 other people plus luggage, and we’d recommend it to anyone coming to Singapore. Our hotel organised it. Fortunately Qantas have an Early Check-in, so we were able to check in and leave our ports at just after noon, which then left us free to wander Jewel, the new addition to Singapore airport. It’s not a terminal, just a huge, amazing building...Jump to full entry
Sep 20, 2019 - Day 38. Friday. 20/9/2019. Singapore
Day 38. Friday. 20/9/2019. Singapore Today we used the MRT for the first time - decided we just couldn’t walk to the Gardens by the Bay - way too far! Once we found the station and Ian had some advice from a Customer Service lady, it was easy. And sure saved the legs. We decided to do the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest, both which we’ve done years ago, but we weren’t disappointed. The orchids are stupendous, so many, so varied and so beautiful. We were there for about 4 hours and cheated and got the Shuttle cart back to the entry. We had...Jump to full entry
Sep 19, 2019 - Day 37. Thursday. 19/9/2019. Singapore
Day 37. Thursday. 19/9/2019. Singapore Ian’s claiming jet lag - I’m saying catch-up. It was 9.30am when I decided I didn’t want to miss out on breakfast - I’d been awake since 7.30, and Ian was still asleep! He heard me getting ready to leave the room, quickly dressed and followed me down, so we just scraped in breakfast before 10am. We walked to Raffles City thinking we’d keep out of the haze and stay indoors. We certainly did that! Wandered around, down some escalators, looked around a bit more, down more escalators and walked some more,...Jump to full entry
Sep 18, 2019 - Day 36. Wednesday. 18/9/2019. Singapore.
Day 36. Wednesday. 18/9/2018. Singapore This morning the smog was thick - so thick that there were signs saying to stay indoors as much as possible, and automatic opening doors would have to be opened manually to keep the smog out of buildings. We couldn’t even see the tops of some of the buildings! Hopefully it won’t hurt us for a few days, but fancy living here! We walked to China Town this morning and poked around for a while, had some lunch then walked back - all in stifling heat. We decided to have a rest before venturing out in the...Jump to full entry
Sep 17, 2019 - Day 35. Tuesday. 17/9/2019 Zurich to Singapore
Day 35. Tuesday. 17/9/2019. Zurich to Singapore A good flight with a few bumpy spots, but I had a great sleep, and it was lovely when I woke up knowing that I didn’t have to be up at a certain time for breakfast.....I only had to please myself. Ian said he had a couple of 3 hour naps, so he did well also. We arrived in Singapore on time to steamy heat, but we didn’t expect anything different. We would have had to wait an hour for the Shuttle Bus to our hotel, at a cost of $9.50pp. After queuing for a long time to get through Immigration, I...Jump to full entry
Aug 28, 2019 - Changi
Had a good nights sleep - Transit hotel in Terminal 3. We walked from T2 - could have caught the train but thought that after a 7 hr flight we should move a bit. Checked in for a 9 hr stay. The rooms are nice and dark - the windows are non existent, so we slept well and checked out at 9. We breakfasted next door at the Transit lounge. A basic selection but adequate. The Portuguese style custard tarts were quite good so J&C had a couple, just to get into practice for Portugal! Viewed the butterfly house and found some wifi to get our...Jump to full entry
Jul 29, 2019 - East Coast Tour
Today we had a tour in the afternoon, so we decided to sleep in and go to breakfast around 9:00. After breakfast, we strolled around the city. Jean wanted to go back and see Raffles Hotel from the front. We took pictures of the exterior, but the hotel itself is closed to the public due to renovations. As we walked along, we saw a sign for a toy museum and decided, why not? So we found the Mint Museum of Toys down a side street. The senior rate admission was only $10 SGD ($7.25 USD). The museum was small, but on four floors. We took the...Jump to full entry
Jul 28, 2019 - City Tour and Sentora Island
We went down to breakfast in at 7:00. The breakfast buffet, while not huge is great. This is the first one to have lox and also corned beef for breakfast. Hey, it's the small things that make you happy sometimes, right? The Rendezvous is only a three star hotel, not like what we had on the Taiwan tour, so no wash cloths, no minbar, no heated toilet seats (Jean loves those), only one restaurant, etc. Today we had a Singapore City Tour with World Express again. We had a 8:30 pickup to take us to the tour center at the Grand Copthorne...Jump to full entry
Jul 27, 2019 - Travel to Singapore
Today was a travel day. We were to picked up at 6:35, so we went down at 6:00 to pay the bill for room service last night, and eat our box breakfast, the breakfast buffet did not open until 6:30. He arrived at 6:20 and we were on our way to the airport on an early Saturday morning. We arrived by 7:15 at Taoyuan Airport and went over to the EVA Air kiosk. We then went to drop our luggage. Now there was an interesting drop off. It was a Self Service Baggage Drop machine that each person approached separately, you placed your luggage in the...Jump to full entry
May 21, 2019 - After the nap.
After D was refreshed by a few hours nap we wandered back into the mall/train station/ airport to look for supper and actually find our path to the airport, terminal 2. With much lively discussion ( border line I am tired you are wrong) between us we found our way to the right level and crossed the bridge into the airport where we had to be in the morning. Thus proving we must walk, with our luggage. There would be no cab, no room Stewart, no way but to trudge our way to the luggage drop off. We found a route through the luggage store to...Jump to full entry
May 21, 2019 - Home again, home again, jiggly jog.
After a 15 1/2 hour flight to San Francisco, then a 5 hour flight to Orlando, a Van ride to Lady lake we got home 36 hours later. It always seems to take longer on the way home than going. ODDS and ENDS 1.The hotels and airport all have prayer rooms. It was Ramadan and D was surprised by turkey bacon jerkie because no pork is served. 2. The mall in Dubai is so large you can hire a cart to drive you around. 3. A couple we met from the Britain had been robbed in Barcelona it took place in the hotel lobby. No money, no passports, no help...Jump to full entry
May 17, 2019 - Singapore The land of food & broken wheels.
Singapore is everything the movies portray it to be. Clean, multi- cultural, a lot of English spoken, busy like a bee hive, and lots of money......... Last night we took a Singapore after dark tour. A boat ride down the river in the center of the city. Walked through the iconic mall, with stores I have only heard the brands of on TV, and casino. Through the hotel that looks like it has a surf board on top, of three towers, connected by swimming pools 56 stories high. We were given a ticket for a drink Singapore sling or a beer but I got a...Jump to full entry
