From Moldova it was back to Brasov to collect the repaired car and then back up north to the Maramure┼č region, with an overnight stop on the way. The Maramure┼č is close up to the Ukraine border, and is renowned for having managed to miss most of the modernisation of the communist era with life continuing to the rhythms of the seasons and the needs of crops. Jun 12, 2008 - Vadu Izei and Maramures

After a short lunch in Debrechen, Hungary, we headed through the border to Romania. This is a vast difference from what I am used to. Almost immediately, I felt like I had gone back in time at least 150 years. People were getting around by horse and buggy, homes were made of wood and had no electricity or plumbing in most parts.
