Oct 6, 2019 - Flights to Lima

It took an hour to get from Saugerties to Albany and only 15 minutes to check my bag, go through Security and find my gate! So glad I got Global Entry which also gives me pre-check. I only had to take my boots off because they have metal eyelets! In Atlanta, I enjoyed a burrito bowl for lunch and sat to write these entries! In an hour, I will board a plane for the six hour flight to Lima! That flight was uneventful but going through customs after midnight with hundreds of others was! I had just told Sara, Pat, & Kathy not to follow me...

Feb 9, 2019 - Enjoying Lima

We had a wonderful, if steamy day here in Lima. The cab drivers keep saying that it must seem quite hot for us and we keep explaining that it is currently REALLY cold and snowy at out home. I suspect that Peggy Moe is very sorry that she lent me her down jacket for the trip!! We visited the San Fransisco church and Monastery, with catacombs and a huge library; looking much like a Harry Potter creation. It seems a bit ironic that the Catholic church was busy expressing horror about the way the natives sacrificed and buried their dead in a...

Oct 14, 2018 - Lima

After breakfast we went around the local neighborhood and took some photos of the street art then we got a taxi to the historic area of Lima starting with  the Plaza De Armas. It is surrounded by the cathedral the municipal building and the government building. I paid too much for a local map, as you do. Because it was sunday morning the Basilica was open with mass on so we got to go inside which was really amazing, real extravagant and opulant spanish catholic decorated. We wandered round the square and through some tourist souviner...

Moore's do Peru 2018

Oct 13, 2018 - Lima

After breakfast we heard off to Huaca Pucllana, a pre Incan temple complex built between 450-650BC but sits right in the middle of the city. After being a hill that was used for motor cross it was uncovered and they have been preserving and restoring it. It is a solid structure without tunnels and chambers and was used for worship only. We then went for a walk through the area and ended up in a supermarket checking out all the different and yum  things to buy. The purple corn was pretty cool to see the place even had a fountain inside....

Oct 12, 2018 - Travel 36 hours

After 36 hours travel from home to hotel we made it to Lima!   Made the most of our six hour lay over in Sydney with a lounge pass. They had a great spread on for breakfast, tried to get some sleep, had showers and even Bailey's (or any other drink you fancied). Everything was help yourself. Flight was delayed for about an hour but we were very happy to see how great our seats in premium economy were, especially as it was a 12 1\2 hour flight. Bubbles in hand before we took off. How do we ever go back to economy? (Next flight it would...

Moore's do Peru 2018

Aug 16, 2018 - Gamarra the textile district.

Off after breakfast to change some US$ to soles. There is a money changer around the corner from our Hotel but he is not open yet, so we continue on to Parque Kennedy. We are hoping to remember this area from when we were in Lima in 2004. In actual fact, nothing seems familiar at all. We remember the square and restaurants but the rest ?. We exchange some money at a bank so at least we have some Peruvian cash. Then we choose one of the restaurants for a coffee and to people watch for a while. Miraflores is an affluent part of Lima with nice...

Happy Birthday to me!!! 60 I can't believe it. A lie in this morning and a leisurely breakfast. Hotel Manaquehue is average. Targeted to the business traveller but okay as it is close to the airport. Jul 29, 2018 - Days 11

A late flight 7.10pm for our flight to Lima, we have 2 nights here, our first morning we went for a short walk the after lunch a half day tour of the city. South America is a very Catholic country so there are lots of highly decorated church's, lots of gold. We visited a fountain that had Pisco instead of water, Pisco is an alcoholic drink that South Americans drink, it is best served as Pisco sour, I've got the recipe hope they sell Pisco in Melbourne. Not sure I would drink from thevfountain though, too many pigeons sitting on it for my...

May 6, 2018 - May 6, 2018 – Lima, Peru

May 6, 2018 – Lima, Peru After 2 pisco sours last night, I slept like a log. I repacked my suitcases again as the pisco which I had bought early on in the trip was here at the hotel. Roberto and Walter had brought it back when they left us at Nazca. I went to breakfast about 8 and met up with Richard, Susan, Coleen, Gerhard, Robert and Diane. Robert and Diane will leave tomorrow to go to the Amazon for 4 days. Richard, Susan, Coleen and Gerhard are on the same flight to Houston that I am on. Since I had booked a day room for today, they...

May 5, 2018 - May 5, 2018 – Puno to Lima, Peru

May 5, 2018 – Puno to Lima, Peru We did not have to get up at the crack of dawn this morning as we didn’t leave the hotel until 10:20. We met, however, at 10 a.m. to celebrate Donna’s birthday. Cheo had gotten a cake for her with one candle on it (smart fellow). It was a really good Black Forest one. After that we headed out to the airport. Puno is so hilly that we had to drive for an hour outside of Puno to reach the airport. When we got there we got checked in for our 1:30 flight. The airport is a fairly small one, and there weren’t many...

Apr 22, 2018 - April 22, 2018 – Lima, Peru

April 22, 2018 – Lima, Peru I was awoken this morning by a couple of Americans who were talking and laughing loudly. Since the rooms open on a courtyard and since the windows are all open, I could hear everything they were saying. After they finally quit about 6:30, a couple started up in Spanish. I just decided to get up and be done with it. I had breakfast at the hotel and then came back to the room and repacked my suitcase. I brought an extra suitcase so am leaving some things here at the hotel so I don’t have to carry them with me....

Apr 21, 2018 - April 21, 2018 – Lima, Peru

April 21, 2018 – Lima, Peru It is another beautiful day. I had a late breakfast and then spent the morning just being lazy and getting caught up on my email. This afternoon, I was picked up at 3:30 for my tour of the Museo Arqueologico Rafael Larco Herrera (Larco Museum) and the Circuito Magico del Agua or Magic Water Park. I signed up for a group tour, but I was the only one so I had a private tour. My tour guide had worked at the Larco Museum for 8 years before becoming a tour guide so I had a really great tour of the Museum. The Museum...
