Dec 20, 2004 - Chivay (Peru)

Nov 22, 2004 - Colca Canyon

Tour got off to a bad start. The guide, who was clearly bored out of his mind nursemaiding yet another whole bunch of stupid tourists, seems to enjoy telling us that most of the condors are at the coast or in Patagonia at this time of year, and it's not his fault if noone in the tour agency told us that, everyone knows it. Since half of us are only along to see the condors, we are all severely pissed off. Still, that's tomorrow. In the meantime, there are various cuddly Andean animals and endless spectacular mountain scenery to see. We...

Aug 25, 2004 - Peru - Colca Canyon

We just thought we would send you some photos of the overnight trip we took from Arequipa to Colca Canyon. These ancient people were the ones who taught the Inca's how to do the terracing that helped make them famous. We did do several hikes in the high altitude to help us get ready for the trek to Machu Picchu. The coca leaves and tea help us adjust to the high altitude. We also got up early in the morning and went to a location to spot condors. We were lucky because it only took us about 10 minutes of waiting before the nesting birds...

Aug 19, 2004 - Colca Canyon, Peru

2 Day Tourist Tour to Chivay and Colca Canyon for 18 US each. Not happy about being part of a tour but it seemed the easiest way to get there and see everything. Long bus ride to Chivay. Saw vicunas (like deer), alpacas and vizcachas (like rabbbits). Great scenery on the way with views of the Andies and lots of Volcanos over 5,500m. Very hot thermal waters in Chivay with an outdoor pool. Stayed there for 2 hrs to get a much needed clean, and had a nice beer while bathing. Next morning up at 5am to see the Condors flying above the Canyon....
