Mar 21, 2019 - Penonome

Judy and I went shopping to Penonome.( You say it like Pen- no- no - may) They have a large material store and a bunch of other interesting stores. In all the times I have been in Penonome. I have not seen the town square. This time Judy and I drove until we found it. There is a spectacular church I took some pictures. I love these old Franciscan churches. We found a store that had just about everything. It was three stories. On the top floor I found shorts and PJs for 99 cents to 3.99. I could have spent a mint. Thanks to Judy who...

Dec 17, 2018 - Zip Lining

So this week I went Zip lining in El Valle de Anton. I also had a fabulous massage. The lady came here and the massage was a deep tissue massage for about an hour. I was in heaven. As many of you know I hurt my back on my birthday and it still bothers me now. I did go to the doctor at home and she gave me pain killers and anti inflammatory medicine. I slept without pain for the first time since July the night after the massage. It takes less than an hour to drive to El Valle which is in the mountains. The altitude is 600 meters. Barry...

Feb 24, 2018 - Signed a lease headed back to Bugaba

Yesterday we decided to stay another day as we have not had much of a chance to just relax. We went back to the apartment and this time we brought Derek and Judy so that we could have some objective input before we made a decision. We went out to dinner with them and they offered their input which was very helpful. We decided to sign the lease as we are able to sublet the apartment. They have a site manager that will help with that. Our move in date is March 1 which is less than a week away. The owners are from Venezuela but were moving...

Feb 22, 2018 - Sunrise and apartment hunting.

The day started with a walk to the beach at 630. It was too far a walk for Barry so I met Derek and Judy at 630 half way between our buildings. Seeing the sunrise on the ocean was beautiful. It reminds me why I want to be in this part of Panama. After the walk Barry and I had an appointment to view an apartment for next year. We were very impressed with the apartment. It was well kept and hardly looked lived in. The owner was hoping for a long term renter. The rent is 1200 pm plus utilities. It is a three bed three bath and we would be...

Feb 21, 2018 - Playa Blanca

In the morning, I re read the booking confirmation and it said nothing about coffee machine or toaster. We headed towards the hotel in hopes of finding a restaurant that did not have Gringo prices. We found a shop and had coffee and pancakes which were very over priced. Thru the night Barry began to have some breathing problems. We attribute that too much mold or must as the apartment was evidently vacant for some time. The sink traps were so dry that there was an army of ants coming into the apartment via the sink. I was also not...

Feb 19, 2016 - Visit to the Doctor

So today we decided that I needed to see a Doctor. My arm is not getting better so it is not likely muscle. We arrived at the Doctor office without an appointment at 12:20. The doctor wanted Xrays so we had to drive to the private hospital to get them done. The X-rays cost me 35.08 each and they took two pictures of my elbow and two of my forearm. In all two films. It is about a 15 minute drive each way between the Dr office and the Clinic Back to the Doctor we go to wait for his thoughts. He confirms that yes I have broken my arm. It is...

Feb 16 Chilled by the pool. Didn't do much. The local dogs have figured out Barry. Every night just after dinner they come down for a treat. The Brown and white dog is pregnant. The Black dog seems to be her protector as he growls at any dogs that come by. Feb 17 Met the Bullis's and another couple at Picassos. Picassos was very busy as it is expat night.

Feb 15, 2016 - shopping and musings of drivers in Panama

For the most of the time here we have struggled with the TV. Some channels are English at night but not the same channels every night. As we cannot read the electronic Guide we need to go thru the channels to find something. By the time we find something it is half over. We find this very frustrating. There is a Cable feed you can get here from Puerto Rico which gives more English channels. As we are in a Panamanian home they do not have this service. I did remember from last time how to use the menu to access more English channels and...

Feb 13, 2016 - Flowers

We hung around the hacienda today. I took pictures of the flowers for my friends who are missing the colour of summer. I don't know what these plants are but they are gorgeous. They are blooming in the dry season. I wonder what it would be like during the wet season? On Thursday they started work on one of the units to extend their front patio. They are working by hand shoveling and making and mixing cement. On the first day there were two guys but since then only one guy is working. The last two pictures were taken on Friday and Saturday...

Feb 12, 2016 - Nata Panama

The day started at the bank. Barry and I have joined Panama Helpline. This is a service where you phone when you need assistance. If you get stopped by the police and they do not speak English you call this number any time 24/7 and the person who answers will translate for you. Our Friend Betty is actively involved in this organization which also puts on meetings etc. Anyway because Betty broke her foot she asked us to take the deposits to the bank for her. This was an experience. They have one small door that looks like a cross between a...

Feb 12, 2016 - Woody's and Picasso's

After we did visited the Church we went for Lunch at a restaurant I had heard of called Yukata... or something like that. It is right on the highway in Penenome. We had a lovely lunch and headed towards home. We decided that our first stop would be Playa Blanca. This is a resort area where you can find a few all-inclusive hotels. Playa Blanca has the second largest pool. They actually have a boat that drags you around on a water weenie. We wanted to show Yvonne and Cliff the pool as we were thinking one day in the next couple of weeks to...
