Jun 20, 2019 - Long To Do List - Relax, Relax, Relax

Today we woke up to rain but that didn't stop Steve. He jumped right in for a morning dip. We went to breakfast. They served traditional breakfast items a la carte: fried eggs, omelets, pancakes, French toast, bacon, toast, fresh juice, coffee. Today is Relaxation Day. Our long list includes stay at the bungalow and swimming, playing board games, kayaking, snorkeling, reading our books. Everyone seemed to whole up and not be out on their decks when a heavy rainstorm began around 11. Not us, we went out and stood in it (we are from Nevada -...

Panama Trip 2019

Jun 19, 2019 - Playa de las Estrellas

Today was sunny! Our chance to go to Starfish Beach - Playa de las Estrellas. We rode a boat after breakfast north. We were dropped off from 10:30 - 2:30. There we saw lobster cages, a long sandy beach lined with the jungle within 20-30 feet of the water, food and trinket vendors, all very primitive. As we snorkeled we discovered large colorful starfish and clear fish. This was a relaxing day with plentiful sunshine. We met other US citizens from North and South Carolina whose spouses were doing research on the island and they were tending...

Jul 31, 2017 - Bocas del Toro

We leave at 10am on a small boat out amongst the Bocas del Toros islands with 5 stops to make. The first stop is at dolphin lagoon. We see 20 or so dolphins in the area feeding. Fortunately, the boats do not hassle them and we enjoy spotting them from either side of the boat. Next we call in at another island and order lunch for when we return later in the day. Out now to deeper water where our boat anchors and we can snorkel the coral reef. There is a lot of healthy coral but the colours are more muted than we are used to seeing. The water...

Jul 30, 2017 - Boquete to Bocas del Toro

Today we have a coffee tour starting at 8.30. Breakfast is on the same balcony that we ate at last night and the view does not disappoint today. It's stunning. Our coffee tour starts at the resort, as part of their business is to grow coffee. The name of the company is Kotowa and it was started in 1917 and has been in the same family ever since. We walk down over a suspension bridge to see the coffee plants growing. Here our guide explains about the different arabica coffee plants, particularly Caturra and Catuai which are grown here. We...

Apr 12, 2014 - Puerto Viejo to Isla Bastimentos

Departed at 8:00am for the one hour trip to the Panama Border. Another complicated affair. First to an office to pay the exit fee. You then take the receipt to the passport office to get the exit stamp. Then you walk a couple of hundred meters over an old railway bridge, then you go into an office to pay your entry fee into Panama and get a stamp (like a postage stamp)in your passport. Finally you go to the immigration office to get another stamp, after you produce proof that you are going to leave the country. Welcome to Panama! We then...

Mar 13, 2014 - Missed it by that much!!!!!

Didn't do much last two days mostly hung around the pool. We had to be out of our apartment by noon but the taxi was not picking us up until 3:45. Hung around at the pool for the three hours in between. We had a Canadian pool party.. There was the family from Quebec, the couple from Sarnia , the couple from Winnipeg and us. Around 3 pm I slipped by the pool. Those in the pool said my head missed hitting the concretee by mere inches. I was not surprised to here that, as I was going down I was thinking don't hit your head, don't hit your...

Mar 11, 2014 - Are the fish biting? Why yes they are!!!!

This time there are lots of photos from starfish beach. We started our day by wishing our oldest son a happy Birthday. It is hard to believe sometimes that our oldest is now 31. the day must include things that are silly. I need to explain the title. Barry likes to bring bread for the fish and he goes out and feeds them. Today when he was doing that a fish bit him. Honest to god it took a nibble on his side. It startled him. We checked and it left a small red mark but did not puncture the skin, but yes the fish were biting.... Jan, Bob,...

Mar 10, 2014 - Red Frog Beach

No we did not get ccnfused or loose a day. Yesterday was a cloudy stay home and do laundry day. Today we went out to Red Frog Beach. The boat ride is a little longer than when we went to Old Bank Town although it is on the same island it is on a different side. The water was much calmer too. So we were inspired today by a young gentleman who was wheelchair bound. He asked if his wheel chair could fit on the seet beside him and so Barry said sure we will make it fit and he turned it upside down. It looked like his legs were gone just above...

We are headed back there on Tuesday and I will take more including sone of the starfish. We saw one as we got off the boat and I meant to go back to get a pic but got side tracked. we have made plans to go back Tuesday. Barry and I saw a styrofoam cooler in town for 6 bucks and will buy one so we can bring beer and sandwiches and wine... Our plan with...

Mar 7, 2014 - Panama Scenery ends with a lovely sunset

I used the good camera to take pics on the trip back from Boquete to Bocas del Toro. We had a much better look at the town of Alminrante. Yikes you wouldnt want to miss the last taxi to Bocas at 6 pm. There apparently is 1 hotel. You can rent a hammock for the night at 7 dollars or you could splurge and and get the "Pimp room" for 4 persons for 36.00. We noticed that many of the huts had outhouses which were right over the water. Yikes.... Interestingly both the two gentleman from the coffee tour and Bob and Greg from New York were all...

Today we planned on heading out to Starfish beach where you can swim. We headed into town to have breakfast. We went to Daves Wave but they were closed. This is the second day in a row. Hmmm something is up. We include pictures taken a couple of days ago frrom Daves Wave. Anyway since Dave's was closed we went to anotherr restaurant that advertises an American breakfast. we told the owner we would prefer a Canadian breakfast but an American one would do. It turned out to be a good breakfast and very filling. Eggs, toast, ham steak, toast...
