Oct 9, 2017 - Foxton Beach to Whanganui

October 10, 2017 Awoke to another bonus sunshine day that we did not expect. However, our spirits were immediately dampened when we learned of the devastating fires burning in Napa and Sonoma Valley. Many of our friends and/or families were fortunately evacuated but they lost their homes. So far our house has no electricity but is not yet in danger. All of our neighbors evacuated because of smoke, no electricity etc. Our VRBO renters could not get the car they reserved in SF but hired a car/driver to take them to Sonoma. When they arrived...

Feb 5, 2016 - Forgotten World Highway

Before we set off from Stratford we visit a quilting exhibition recomended by the girls in I site. Anyway it was great and well worth the visit. Decide to head off on drive anyway so get i site at Stratford to book us into a b&b in Whangamomona as we are late setting off. When i say a b&b there is only 1 and 1 hotel who doesn't deal with i sites. Evidently there is a story here which unfolds when we get to the b&b. The whole trip only takes about 21/2 hours but that's not including any side trips that we may do along the way. Actually the...

Looks really nice so we stay a night. It's beautifully kept with hanging baskets along the...

Jan 10, 2010 - Caoeing on the Whanganui river

This morning we drove to Pipiriki where we were going to do our 3-4 hour canoe trip. We got a free drink when we got there which was very welcome :) We went in a jet boat up the river which was fun! The guide stopped at various landmarks and told us the history and importance of them. People used to fish for eels here and also it was the main river route / road from the south of the island up north and used to be a very busy trading route. He showed us the sides of the cliffs where you could see how height the river had risen in some very...
