Nov 28, 2005 - East Cape

Not much sleep with hurricane winds and rain nearly taking the roof of the motel off. Monday morning - still p---ing down. Gale force winds. We settled up at the motel and set off to the East Cape via the Pacific Highway. Stopped lots of times to look at the sea - incredible breakers and foam. We've seen the film, and the South Pacific wasn't supposed to look like Scarborough on a bad day! Also, due to the 'hurricane' there were lots of trees down with hunky men clearing them - NOT (actually there was perhaps one hunk), so took us ages to...

Di and Jaz On Tour

Apr 17, 2005 - East Cape Light House

We made it to the most eastern point of NZ around midnight and found a place to catch a few hours sleep. Got up early and hiked up to the east cape lighthouse to watch the first sunrise in the world that morning as we were on the furthest east landpoint nearest the international date line. Clouds gave us less than spectacular views, but it was still quite nice.
