Mar 8, 2011 - Tongariro National Park

Arrived 8th March Departed 9th March Did the Tongariro Alpine Crossing which is one of the world’s top ten must do walks apparently! The walk is an extended trek over steep volcanic terrain between Mount Tongariro and Mount Ngauruhoe (Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings) and took us about 7 hours altogether. Was pretty amazing, tough in parts, but awesome with stunning views! Weather was pretty good for us luckily as the previous 2 days had been cancelled due to high winds!
