May 11, 2006 - Waitomo Caves

hey it's been a cool couple of days, as expected the group meal the other night was a complete disaster hehe, we all bought stipidly random stuff that weren't really connected in anyway, and then found out that the "very impressive kitchen facilities" involved having two hobs to cook for 20 people- all good fun hehe, you've got to love staying in youth hostels! i went black water rafting yesterday, which was very cool... it involved abseiling into really really big hole, climbing through really small caves, swimming through similarly small...

Jan 19, 2006 - Waitomo

So I just arrived in Taupo from Waitomo which was a quite town. The whole point of stopping there was to go see the wWitomo caves and the glow worms that live in them. I did the walking tour because it was way cheaper than the tubing one and I really did not want to get in the water with a bunch of eels! Yuck. It was still pretty cool though, you go into these caves and get in a boat, it's pitch black except for the ceiling which was covered in glow worms. It basically looked like stars in the sky, except with a crap load more starts than...

Apr 15, 2005 - Waitomo Caves

Next destination - Waitomo Caves. Famous for the glow worms that live in them the caves are a huge tourist attraction, and being New Zealand it meant that some kind of sporting activity was offered at the same time. We decided to go for a 'Black Abyss' tour of the cave taking in as many of these activities as possible - some might call us gluttons for punishment!! The blurb on the leaflet describes the activities as: 'Descend spider-like into the black depths of Ruakuri Cave and then experience the best caving has to offer...the ultimate...
