Dec 31, 2004 - Penguins, Queenstown and New Years

Despite the persistent rain, Natasha insisted we visit the Yellow Eye penguin colony on the Otago Pennisula (aka back of beyond). Having donned our waterproofs we ventured off in search of these rare birds, as luck would have it, they too are pretty active in the rain and we managed to spot a few, with one appearing from the sea after what appeared to be a successful fishing trip. Thrown in for good measure were the basking singleton male seals on the rocks, who had been unlucky in love this season. All in all, well worth a visit. Heading...

Happy birthday to smee, happy birthday to smee, happy birthday to smee e, happy birthday to smee!! Well, my birthday began on Thursday, and went straight through to Sunday! Marvellous!! It started off in a lil backward place (yes, even more backward than we've already spoken about, but nicer cos there aren't as many locals!)called Makarora. It was a bit like a camping lodge that you used to go to when you were in the Brownies/guides, but the difference was that it was set in the centre of a b.e.a.utiful mountain range. We started off by...

Apr 15, 2004 - Queenstown

We arrived in Queenstown about 7ish yesterday evening and I was exhausted- it's amazing how tiring sitting on a bus can be! Our hostel seems nice - lots of movies that you can hire for $2 and the three of us are in a 4-share room which is good. We headed into 'downtown' Queenstown for dinner - not sure why everyone calls it down-town - except that maybe it's because it's at the bottom of the hill - it's a small city though - probably about Victor Harbour size. Anyway, we came into town for dinner and ended up having a few beers as well - my...
